DELAY THE VOTE ON THE CHAFFEE COUNTY PROPOSED NEW LAND USE CODE AND ZONING MAP

This petition seeks the commitment of The Chaffee County Board of County Commissioners to defer the decision on the proposed alterations to the Land Use Code and Zoning Map  until an economic impact study is completed and shared with the public. We urge the board to consider the potential impacts these changes could have on our local economy and community. An economic impact study has yet to be  completed or provided for public review. This assessment would ensure the proposed modifications would not harm local businesses, residents, and our cherished rural landscapes. We call on the Chaffee County Board to prioritize our community's long-term economic health and sustainability over rushing into decisions that could inadvertently harm our livelihood. The valuable input of this study can contribute to informed, beneficial decisions. Postpone the vote, complete an economic impact study first. Please sign this petition to support.

Why is this important?

If the new Land Use Code and Zoning Map is approved it could impact every citizen who lives, works and/or plays in Chaffee County. The list of potential unattended consequences include:
     * The loss of hundreds of millions in land value the moment it is passed and several billion over the next several years.
     * The loss of tax revenues to the county
     * A decline in population growth
     * A decline in newly created small businesses to serve the community
     * A decline in housing affordability
     * An increase in friends and neighbors forced to relocate for lack of economic opportunity.
     * An increase in bank foreclosures
     * An increase in small business going out of business
     * A loss of services within the community
     * The potential for the county to go bankrupt as a result of hundreds of lawsuits for inverse condemnation claims as a result of loss of property value created by zoning law changes. This would lead to a loss of public services including police, fire, schools, healthcare and social services.
