Demand the Senate Investigate the FDA over food recalls!
We’re dealing with a public health emergency.
The catastrophic outbreak of cyclosporiasis—an intestinal parasite that can cause frequent, and explosive, diarrhea. Recalls of millions of cartons of eggs due to potential salmonella and a recall of raw bacon due to lack of proper inspection.
Enough is enough.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee oversees the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and it’s time for answers. The Senate HELP Committee must subpoena FDA Director Kyle Diamantas, and the Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and make them answer for the failures of the FDA in preventing these cases.
Why is this important?
As a part of his mission to cut out government “waste” and cut through bureaucracy, the Trump administration and Republicans have put the health of the American public in danger.
Since the start of Trump’s second term, the FDA has lost 20% of its staff — including 1 in 5 positions from its human food inspection division, and the CDC has lost 25% of its staff – now with only three scientists tracking food parasites.
In 2025, Trump eliminated the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods, which was created in 1988 under president Ronald Reagan to provide scientific advice and coordination to defend against dangerous microbes.
The administration also ended the mandatory tracking of cyclospora and other foodborne illnesses, which the FDA, along with other key agencies, was involved in.
Gutting staff at these critical agencies didn’t save money, it risked the health and well-being of millions of people and we need answers now.
