Disband Northern Guilford’s America club
Growing up as a member of a marginalized community, I have witnessed firsthand the impacts of hate and prejudice on students like me. Along with many classmates who feel vulnerable and targeted, I have been disheartened to find an organization within our school that champions divisive and discriminatory rhetoric: the "America Club."- This club is represented by speakers with a history of racist and prejudiced views, spreading messages that fracture our student body rather than unite it.
Schools should be safe havens for learning and growth, not arenas for hate and exclusion. For students from all backgrounds, it is crucial that we cultivate an environment of acceptance, understanding, and respect. Allowing an organization to platform speakers with harmful ideologies undermines these values.
Northern Guilford has always celebrated diversity and the strength it brings to our community. However, the presence of this club undermines these principles by promoting ideologies that harm already marginalized groups. We have seen incidents where students are made to feel unsafe or unwelcome due to the club's activities, which is unacceptable in an educational setting.
We are calling on the school board and administration of Norther Guilford High School to take responsibility and rectify this issue. By disbanding the "America Club," we can ensure that our schools remain inclusive and conducive to the educational and personal development of every student. Furthermore, implementing policies that prevent similar clubs from forming in the future would reinforce our commitment to fostering a healthy, supportive school culture.
