#BLVD St Pete, Reimagine 175

Join us in advocating for change! This summer, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has allocated funds for a planning study to evaluate the potential of Interstate Spur 175. Despite its construction in 1980, this roadway remains significantly underused, occupying over 40 acres of valuable downtown space. Originally designed as a barrier dividing the southside and not to solve a mobility problem, it restricts access for residents and stifles community connectivity.

By signing this petition, you're expressing your support for #BLVD St. Pete's vision: Reimagine 175. Together, we envision transforming this underutilized corridor into a vibrant, accessible space that serves the diverse needs of St. Petersburg's residents. We advocate for:

Enhanced Accessibility: Creating better connections between the southside and downtown, ensuring equitable access for all residents.

Community Revitalization: Restoring the neighborhood's historic grid layout and fostering a walkable, vibrant urban environment.

Sustainable Development: Promoting environmentally friendly transportation solutions and reducing dependence on personal vehicles.

Your signature is more than just a nameā€”it's a commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable future for our city. Let's work together to shape the future of Interstate Spur 175. Sign now and be part of the change!

Why is this important?

The urgency is palpable. The Historic Gas Plant area is on the cusp of transformation. What is currently asphalt will soon evolve into a thriving economic hub. Remarkably, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has earmarked funding specifically aimed at initiatives like ours, aiming to 'reconnect communities' that have long been divided and marginalized. Momentum is building, and the moment for action is now.

How it will be delivered

We intend to deliver this petition directly to key stakeholders, ensuring our message is heard loud and clear. Our plan includes presenting the petition to the Mayor's office, as well as to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). By engaging directly with decision-makers at both the local and federal levels, we aim to advocate for meaningful change and garner the support necessary to drive our vision forward.

We created a video highlighting the presentation given by Forward Pinellas to the City Council. This is a video from St. Pete's Public Services and Infrastructure Committee on December 9, 2021. The findings of the downtown mobility study were shared. This video was edited by our team to highlight the sections from that meeting that focus on Route 175. The full video recordings can be found on the city website under past meetings. There is a great deal of information presented on Interstate 175.
