Friends of The Garvey School - Sign the Petition
The Garvey School (https://garveyschool.org/) is a beloved community focused school located in Co-Op City (northeast Bronx). At present, RiverBay Corporation is terminating the school's lease through July 2023 and so far, RiverBay has refused to extend their lease for at least another year until a new location can be secured. As a result, the school – and the community – is in a terrible bind.
The school houses approximately 100 students and, with the academic year ending in June, it will be nearly impossible to find and arrange for alternative space within the desired timeframe without significantly disrupting the students and faculty. The school relies heavily on city-based educational grants and currently has arranged for a 4-year, grant to host a 3K program at the school at no cost to parents; however, the grant is site-specific and funds will not be made available to the school unless they can provide evidence of a written lease or letter of intent for space at which to host the program. In the interim, the school has been using its own funds to support the program.
As a friend of the Garvey School we are asking that you make your voice heard if you want The Garvey School to stay in the community.
