Keep Florida School buildings closed in 2020-2021

Keep Florida School buildings closed in 2020-2021

Keep Florida school buildings closed through Fall semester 2020. Shift all students to remote instruction.

Why is this important?

There is no way to keep students, teachers, staff, bus drivers and cafeteria workers safe if they report to school buildings. Until there is 100% assurance that children will not bring COVID-19 home from school, no school buildings should reopen in Florida.

Remote instruction is feasible, and in cases where parents cannot handle instruction a tutoring program should be established to ensure that kids can keep learning. This can be accomplished state-wide or district by district. If families do not have computers or internet access, these resources should be provided by the Florida Department of Education, by federal funding, or by community foundations.

Reevaluate this position in January 2021 and/or after an effective COVID-19 vaccine has been developed and tested and is widely available.

How it will be delivered

When we hit a significant threshold we will hold a digital press event and will announce the status of the petition, letting Florida residents know that it is still available to sign. Then after another round of signatures we'll deliver the signatures in a very public manner, stressing that we are being careful to keep the recipient (the Governor) and the messengers safe.

Reasons for signing

  • i have 5 siblings and 3 of them got covid-19 ever since they went to school. i don't want the same to happen to other kids/teens out there.
  • my child died from covid sshe got it from school
  • i signed because we coronavirus cases are still growing, plus, many people I know are enjoying online school, being more productive, and less stressed

TEAM -
I pick up the 1,660 pages of just under 100,000 printed petition signatures tomorrow. Then how do we get that huge document to the Governor?

Incidentally I’ve been sickened by, and fought off the virus and now test negative and am assured that I have antibodies in my bloodstream. I wear my mask out of courtesy, not because of fear of catching or passing the virus along. So I can go to Tallahassee, and would be a great passenger if you want to drive up through Orlando. Our electric car won’t make it over 100 miles without many stops to recharge. Or maybe DeSantis will be in Central Florida soon. How do we find out about that?
Thanks Dave

A reporter at WESH 2 TV News will be interviewing me tomorrow (Monday) about this petition. Check it out and help accelerate the petition once we've had the publicity. I imagine it may be on the evening news.

In 48 hours we're pushing 40,000 signatures, obviously we're onto something here. Please keep sending this around to our Florida friends and family. If you need some ammunition please use some of the arguments from this website https://nancyebailey.com/2020/06/28/22-reasons-why-schools-should-not-reopen-in-the-fall/
