🕯️ Lex’s Law: Demand Accountability, Duty to Act, and Justice 🕯️

No more silence. No more excuses. Lex’s Law = accountability + action.
We are calling on New York State lawmakers to introduce and pass Lex’s Law — a life-saving reform that closes the deadly loopholes in our current system.

On February 23, 2025, Alexa Jade Garaffa (“Lex”) lost her life because no one called for help, and because our laws allow people who provide dangerous substances to walk away without accountability. Current Good Samaritan protections are not enough. Families are left without justice, and lives are lost in silence.

Lex’s Law would:

Require anyone who provides substances or is present during an overdose to call 911 or get medical help (“Duty to Act Clause”).

Hold accountable those who knowingly supply lethal or tainted substances that result in death, with charges of criminally negligent homicide.

Require prosecutors to act on repeat offenders tied to multiple overdoses or deaths.

Guarantee transparency for families, including toxicology results, timelines, and prosecutorial decisions.

This law would save lives, give families answers, and ensure accountability where the system currently fails.

We urge you to take immediate action to sponsor and support Lex’s Law in the New York State Legislature. No more silence. No more excuses.

Why is this important?

This is important because the current system failed Lex — and it will continue failing others if nothing changes.

Right now, families are left waiting months for toxicology, denied answers about prosecutorial decisions, and forced to watch as those who supplied or stood by walk away free. The absence of a clear “duty to act” standard means people can watch someone overdose, refuse to call for help, and face no consequences. Or even worseknowingly give someone a lethal dose with intent to kill — and still avoid accountability.

Lex’s Law matters because:

It will save lives by making it a legal obligation to call for help.

It will close the loophole that lets people repeatedly supply substances without accountability.

It will bring transparency for families who deserve answers instead of silence.

It will honor Lex’s life by turning tragedy into change.💜

Every day without this law is another day families risk losing loved ones to the same negligence. New York must lead by example and put justice, accountability, and human life first.
