No more taxpayer money for partisan manhunts!
Donald Trump has ordered Texas Republicans to redraw the state’s congressional districts in an attempt to pick up more Republican seats in the House in the 2026 midterm elections. And to no surprise, under Governor Greg Abbott’s leadership, they are.
In response, a group of Democratic lawmakers have left the state in protest against discriminatory congressional maps that favor Republicans. Without enough lawmakers on the floor, the bill can’t come to a vote.
Texas Speaker Dustin Burrow signed warrants for the lawmakers’ arrests—and now the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has agreed to help find them at the request of U.S. Senator John Cornyn. This flies in the face of the function of the FBI—which serves to prosecute federal crimes, not be at the beck and call of states embroiled in political fights.
Lawmakers have a right to break quorum, and the FBI is flushing taxpayer money down the drain with this politically motivated manhunt. Add your name demanding an end to this federal overreach and this waste of resources.
Why is this important?
Gerrymandering breaks up historically underrepresented voting blocs and shifts the balance of power for decades to come. And it’s been a part of the Republican playbook for years.
Now, Texas lawmakers are caving to Trump’s demands to flip seats after he said Republicans are “entitled to five more seats” in the state.
Texas lawmakers have used the act of breaking quorum as a protest tool since the 1870s, and to demand the FBI hunt down lawmakers for this merited walkout is a massive misuse of taxpayer money and a huge overreach of federal power.
Will you sign the petition demanding that the FBI stop grandstanding and cease any attempts to find Texas lawmakers?
