Open Riverbend Park
This campaign has ended.
The City of Cambridge and Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) closed Riverbend Park on April 26 and May 3. The reasoning for this decision was that "closing Memorial Drive would potentially encourage people to gather, which conflicts with our current public health strategies."
During this pandemic, it is essential to allow the public to participate in outdoor activities that contribute to physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Additional space is vital for people to do so while maintaining safe distance and preventing conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles.
We request that the City of Cambridge and DCR reopen Riverbend Park effective May 10, 2020 and study options for additional selective street closures in the area to improve access to safe, socially distanced areas for outdoor recreation. This unprecedented crisis necessitates creative adaptations to our environment. Oakland, Milan, Paris, and a host of other cities have implemented similar strategies and Cambridge should be an innovative leader, as well.
Give us space to get outside safely!

Why is this important?
We ask for public officials to implement creative solutions for residents to get outside safely during this unprecedented public health crisis.
