Petition to defund Kings Point (the United States Merchant Marine Academy)
The existence of Kings Point has been kept widely hidden from the general public.
There are 6 state maritime academies and one apprenticeship program that produce more than enough officers than what are needed for the US Merchant Marine Fleet. The majority of students that attend USMMA (Kings Point) have no financial need for free tuition.
Kings Point costs tax payers one hundred million dollars per year and shows an incredible lack of diversity, economic and otherwise. Additionally, a great number of graduates never fulfill the reserve military obligations after graduation.
The industry as a whole and tax payers no longer want to financially support this institution.
