Prosecute Trump!

As we've seen in the January 6th Select Committee hearing, Donald Trump was at the center of a criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election. In the process, he stole and destroyed federal documents, brought about the deaths of civilians and officers alike, and nearly destroyed our democracy.
The committee has done its job in investigating Trump’s crimes. Now, it’s time for the Department of Justice to do its job by prosecuting Trump’s crimes against the American people. It’s past time to charge Trump-- it should have been done a long time ago.
Why is this important?
Time and time again, Trump has evaded accountability for his attacks against our democracy because people have been afraid to stand up. The GOP helped acquit him after he abused his power and obstructed Congress— and even after he incited the deadly white supremacist-led insurrection on January 6, 2021, they continued to say that he had done nothing wrong. Enough is enough. A federal judge declared in a ruling that “more likely than not,” Donald Trump committed crimes in his attempted coup to sabotage the results of the 2020 election to keep himself in power over the will of the American people. The Department of Justice can and must act swiftly to hold him accountable for the same laws that we are required to follow. We are not a nation that is supposed to be dedicated to tyrants. If we allow Trump to get away with his attempt to overthrow the democratically elected government of the United States to keep himself in power, we are setting the stage for him or a future would-be tyrant to do it again-- or allowing him to get away with it soon.
Nov 15, 2022: Donald Trump declared his intention to run for president in 2024. We can't allow Trump's candidacy to put him above the law —we still demand he be prosecuted for his crimes.
