Right now, over 2 million federal civil servants who have sworn an oath to uphold our Constitution are facing unprecedented attacks on their careers and our nation's stability.
In the first month of Donald Trump’s administration, tens of thousands of federal government employees have already been unceremoniously fired as the White House and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency look to purge both new and career workers across the U.S. government.
Why is this important?
These mass layoffs hurt all of us. When essential American workers are fired, everybody suffers. From compromised food safety inspections to delayed veterans’ benefits to disrupted Social Security services, politically motivated purges of federal workers directly harm American families.
While educators, healthcare workers, and researchers are losing their jobs, billionaires like Elon Musk are getting richer off taxpayer handouts.
That’s why we are calling on Congress to:
-Pass immediate legislation protecting federal workers from politically motivated firings
-Block any attempts to reclassify civil service positions to remove employment protections
-Maintain the merit-based civil service system that prevents political interference
-Investigate and stop any coordinated efforts to dismantle federal agencies through mass terminations
-Ensure stable, long-term funding and staffing for essential government services
Every American relies on dedicated federal employees. Whether it's the FDA inspector ensuring our medicines are safe or the Social Security Administrator helping our seniors, public servants work for all of us, not for any political agenda.
The threat to our federal workforce is immediate and real. We cannot wait to act. When political appointees can fire career civil servants at will, we lose the expertise, institutional knowledge, and nonpartisan service that our government depends on to function.
