Recall Joplin City Council!
The Joplin City Council, in Joplin, Missouri, has continued to ignore the voice of the people of Joplin by voting in favor of a potential data/Bitcoin mining operation. It has been widely circulated online and in news releases that if the property in question is not annexed into the city of Joplin, they will drop their bid. The alleged company is Abits.Inc - a Hong Kong-based company. China has a long history of ignoring environmental safeguards to boost production - whereas in the United States air, water quality, and adverse affects on local wildlife and flora are taken into consideration before a potential polluter can locate here.
We aren't perfect, but we clearly see the downside of ignoring potential, dangerous, operations. We, the citizens of Joplin, are requesting that a twelve month moratorium be issued before any final vote is completed. We need to protect the at risk protected natural flora and species that may inhabit this wildlife area. Not to mention that the environmental records of any proposed company Data Center have not been disclosed. We are asking for a twelve month moratorium on any and all developemenr on the proposed Wildwood Farm property, to assess the potential environmental and economic issues involving locating a Data/Bitcoin Center near our community, the stress on local utilities, water and air quality, noise, and other known issues that have occurred in these centers nationwide. We want to know: Who signed an NDA and who really represents the people? You decide - so will we!

Why is this important?
If we allow Joplin City Council to strong arm us into this potentially damaging data/Bitcoin Mining Center, then our voice will have been silenced. A twelve month moratorium will give those of us opposed to this "snake oil sale" time to conduct an environmental study, identify potential at risk flora and endangered species, research past environmental impacts of these highly controversial, and largely opposed - Data/Bitcoin Mining Operations - here, and abroad. Data suggests that these centers are just another cog in the corporate greed growth wheel, that trickles down few benefits for those of us living here. One must ask - why are we allowing a potential Chinese Data Center - or any Dra Center for that matter, to locate in our backyard? Time to stand up, show up, and speak out. Don't let City Hall silence our voice!
