To: Demand that the Tacoma ICE Detention Center release Daniel now!

Release Daniel from ICE detention Immediately

Daniel's family, with the strong backing of community organizations like Latinos Unidos Siempre and supporters from across the country, is urgently calling for the immediate release of Daniel (a fierce defender of human rights who was abducted from Salem, Oregon, by ICE in February 2025).

Daniel’s continued detention is unjust, and we demand that Oregon and Washington State officials take action and release Daniel immediately.

Daniel’s Story:

Daniel, a beloved member of our community in Salem, Oregon, was unjustly detained by ICE in February of this year and was abducted outside his own home as he prepared to go to work. He is the father of four U.S.-born children and has lived in Oregon since the age of 3. Oregon is his home.

As a young person, Daniel was a victim of the school-to-prison pipeline. He spent ten years of his youth in prison due to convictions that were later pardoned in 2021 by Oregon Governor Kate Brown. During his incarceration, Daniel transformed his life: earning a GED, an associate’s degree, and gaining international recognition for his leadership and debate skills through the Toastmasters Program.

He has been a strong advocate for his fellow detainees, many of whom have all experienced unjust treatment. Because of his advocacy, he has faced retaliation, including solitary confinement and being denied proper nutrition. While sometimes being left to starve, he and others have also reported several inhumane conditions within the facility, including:

  • Severe overcrowding forces detainees to sleep on the floor
  • Inadequate food, particularly for those with medical needs who require specific nutrients
  • Pregnant detainees are not receiving proper prenatal care or medical attention
  • Frequent harassment, humiliation, and threats from facility staff
  • Gross violations of state and federal health and sanitation guidelines

When detainees speak out or advocate for their basic rights, they are often punished by being placed in isolation or having their communication with the outside world cut off entirely.

Daniel’s continued detention is not only unjust, it is a direct attack on our community, a father, and a human rights advocate.

Why is this important?

Across the country and here in Oregon, immigrants are being torn from their families and locked in detention centers where they face inhumane conditions, lack of food, medical care, and basic dignity. These cages aren’t about safety; they're about control, profit, and criminalizing our communities.

We demand the immediate release of Daniel, a loved and valued member of our community, and an end to the cruel and unjust system that continues to detain immigrants across the state.

Immigrants are the backbone of Oregon. They are our teachers, healthcare workers, caregivers, and essential workers contributing millions to our economy and enriching every part of our society. This isn’t just about one person. It’s about dignity, justice, and freedom for all.

This demand is backed by a growing coalition of organizations that stand united in calling for Daniel’s immediate release and an end to inhumane immigrant detention:
