In response to Hurricane Sandy, which left sections of rail line without power for several days, NJ Transit plans to build a micro-grid that can operate separately from the commercial power grid (which is a good thing). However, under the current proposal from NJ Transit, the micro-grid would be powered by a gas-fired plant to be built in Kearny, NJ. Because he oversees both NJ Transit and the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, Governor Murphy is responsible for the final decision on this project and has the definitive power to stop it.

That narrative, whether it be fear or hope, colors the outlook and perspective of the American people. Especially if it is repeated, relentlessly, and amplified. Using fear for political gain, or for ratings, causes damage. As an emotion, fear intrinsically decreases productivity in a company, and in a country. While children are out of school learning remotely, they now face other issues such as social isolation, anxiety, distress, stress, trauma and other social-emotional challenges. While we understand the necessity and agree with Governor Andrew Cuomo decision to close schools and maintain safety of all, it is also vital that our children well-being is supported in the process. Virtual mental health and social/emotional support is needed to help our children get through this uncertain time and crisis. The coronavirus has serious impact on our children well-being; this impact is greater than we are acknowledging today. Children are now forced to adjust during a world pandemic and crisis without the physical company of those they traditionally interact with including peers, teachers, counselors, community and religious leaders. With the absence of in-classroom learning, after school programs and other social activities, parents are also grappling and struggling with these changes, creating other issues such as parent stress, parenting challenges, working from home while teaching children at home. While medical health and safety is our priority, we cannot neglect mental health, especially the mental health of our children. That is why we are urging Governor Andrew Cuomo and our state leaders to ensure funds are set aside for over 2.5 million children in New York State to have access to virtual social and emotional support and mental health services. Without such state investment, we fear vulnerable New York children mental well-being will not be supported during a time needed the most.

I am a New Orleans Register Voter hereby demand and petition that we not shift the legislative powers to white leaders to represent Orleans Districts 5 & 7, which comprises a combined 57% black population. We are demanding our rights as voters that the Louisiana Legislators retain Orleans Senate districts by keeping Senate District 7 as an Orleans majority and not producing a majority-white Orleans district for Senate District 5. ODOT needs to help Elyria and Lorain County citizens with one of the worst traffic situations in our area. The intersection of State Route 57 and Chestnut Ridge needs help. ODOT, please approve a new access to State Route 57 north of the Walmart property and build a new entrance and exit at that point. Work with EPA, Elyria and Lorain County governments to fix this problem.
