I am directing our local, state, and federal governments to make climate change a top priority by developing a specific legislative plan to combat this devastating event.

There is an increasing debate over whether AA should be considered a religion. In many ways AA does seem Christian in focus, but on closer examination, AA is neither Christian nor moral by any usual definitions of the word. In fact at many junctures it is clear that the more appropriate interpretation of “God” in the AA Fellowship is the Fellowship of AA, as expressed in the acronym, Good Orderly Direction. Thus, to say that AA is blasphemous is true but only the starting place of why churches should stop allowing AA meetings on their premises, and should instead encourage the development of their own Church sobriety program, rather than support AA or any of the other 12 Step Programs to come out of AA. Following the observation that AA does not support the idea of Jesus as Savior, despite borrowing from the prestige of a variety of churches whenever it can, is the observation that in AA the only true goal is staying sober. This is key to why AA is increasingly in the news for sex scandal and the exploitation, and even murder, of its more vulnerable members. AA, believe it or not, supports, in the deepest levels of its ideology, the concept that if it helps a man to stay sober to sexually exploit a woman, or even a child, that God must approve of this act. AA then compounds this error/sin by insisting that if this victim feels anger/ “resentment”over being hurt she is less spiritual than her victimizer. If all you need is documentation on the heresy of AA to persuade you to stop your Church’s support of AA and related 12 Step Program, you do not need to go any further. I am a liberal Christian, but I do respect the point of view of my friends in the Christ of the Catholic Church. There is a firm difference between a cult and a religion and that is the biggest blasphemy of AA. The founders of AA want their audience to think the cult of AA as a religious institution when it concerns Catholics and Christians, just as it wants atheists to believe that AA is secular. AA cannot be both, and it isn’t both. That is because AA is a cult. The Catholic and Christian Churches are not cults, and as such, should not support the cult of AA.

Regarding the matter of the disposition of the Sebring Municipal Golf Course and Caddyshack restaurant on the property, we request that you reject Robert Blackmon's request for leasing and ownership of the  property for $1, and rule in favor of the people of the city and county who are opposed to this transaction. Mr. Blackmon has repeatedly asserted that in April of 2022, four months before the sale of the property sale was completed, he met with John Schoop, Bob Swaine and Scott Noethlich and was told at the time by city officials that transfer of these properties to his company wouldn’t be a problem. The golf course has undergone extensive renovations at the cost of the city in the interim period, with a $260,000 expenditure last approved by the city council in April of 2024. If the principals involved in these negotiations were aware of the possible transfer of management, and ultimately ownership, why was the city’s money expended on these improvements after the fact? While we are aware of the quality efforts the Blackmon concern has put into rehabilitating an historic property, we don’t feel it is in the best interests of the residents of the city and county we live in to hand over the property for nothing.

The program takes $24 million in taxpayer money - which should be spent to benefit the public good - and uses it to only benefit the fracking industry. Fracked gas pipelines are inherently dangerous. Earlier this year, a pipeline exploded in in Westmoreland County, causing severe injury and property damage. In October, a gasoline pipeline operated by Sunoco ruptured in Lycoming County, leaking 55,000 gallons into the Susquehanna River. The Pipeline Investment Program purports to help schools and hospitals by connecting them with fracked gas energy. New fracked gas pipelines would only put these institutions and our communities at grave risk. Many schools and hospitals are already negatively impacted by fracking and associated infrastructure. In fact, parent groups have been forming across the state to keep wells away from schools because children are more vulnerable to the pollution they cause than adults. The infirmed are another vulnerable population. A program that encourages more fossil fuel infrastructure around schools and hospitals, perpetuating the same industry that is putting their populations at risk, is unacceptable.

The sole purpose of this petition is to let the Fire Commissioners know that we, Chelan citizens who are registered to vote here, would like to have the Fire Levy Lid Lift put back to the November Election Ballot in 2018. By this, the commissioners will be allowing the community ample time to be properly educated as to the needs of the Fire Department so that they can make an informed decision when choosing to vote yes or no.
