The private sale "loophole" makes it possible for people who can’t pass a background check to buy guns easily from unlicensed (private) sellers. This creates an unsafe situation because people who shouldn't have guns can bring them into our neighborhoods, use them and sell them to others. By providing a venue for such sales, the County is promoting an unsafe situation. Please either allow only licensed dealers to sell at gun shows at the County Fairgrounds (and other County-owned venues) or put an end to gun shows on County property. Don’t let people who shouldn’t have guns buy them on County property.

The citizens of Seminole County would like to petition the decision makers of Seminole County to correct the problems associated with panhandlers/beggars on street corners. There are too often times when the normal flow of traffic is impeded by those stopping to give money to the beggars. This problem can be solved by making it illegal for drivers to give money to beggars from their cars while on the street. If drivers wish to give money they need to go to the parking lot rather than give it from their cars causing traffic to slow or be restricted.

Stop holding the country hostage to further your political gains; vote on a clean budget resolution and raise the debt ceiling without demanding cuts to Social Security, Obamacare, or any other vital programs.

Dear Neighbors, On July 22, 2015, a Public Hearing re a proposed zoning change is being held at 5:00 P.M. at the Collier Municipal Building. Specifically, a variance is being sought by land developer, Jack Cargnoni, to rezone a piece of his property from Single Family to Planned Economic Development. We must convince our Township Commissioners to deny this request. Such a zoning change would adversely effect our unique neighborhood structure as currently defined by the Township's most recent Comprehensive Plan. During the Public Hearing, those who wish to speak are allotted three minutes of testimony. Please make every effort to attend this important meeting and voice your concerns and/or show support against the proposal. When cinema was invented in the 1890's, no one could have predicted that it would become one of the primary tools of documenting and narrating the human experience. Cinema has the power to show us who we were, who we are, and who we can be. It is blatantly obvious that the choices that the executives within the motion picture industry have made have intentionally or inadvertently omitted and/or truncated and/or silenced the voices and stories of people of color and women. That's why we need to rise up and tell this powerful and wealthy industry that it is time for a change in the movies they select to produce, the voices they choose to share, and the people who are at the focus of these stories that are watched by billions of people all over the world. Can you sign this petition that is directed at the CEOs and Presidents of these corporations that are in control of cinema and the movie business industry and ask them to increase the diversity in their movies by 25% over the next 5 years?

I am an immigrant from Mexico, now living in the U.S. for almost 20 years. It took me nearly 18 years to get a green card and about $20,000. Will I be eligible to become a citizen,and pay some more? Nobody should have to wait that long or spend that much to get a green card or become a citizen. We need a system that is fair and reasonable. One that encourages legal immigration by being simple to follow and affordable. People should not have to hire an attorney to get a visa. We the undersigned are encouraged by recent discussions regarding immigration reform and ask that you, as our representatives in the federal government, support the following : 1. An affordable pathway to citizenship for all those currently in the US without a history of felony conviction , regardless of their country of origin or current documentation status. 2. Prioritize, in such a pathway, a) those with legal residency and non-expired visas b) Minor children of undocumented adults along with their parents and grandparents. 3. Children born in the US should be entitled to all the same rights as other natural born citizens regardless of their parental immigration status, including in-state tuition discounts. 4. Support The Dream Act which calls for legalization of the immigration status of those brought to the US as children before they were 16 years old and who have resided at least 5 consecutive years in the US

Consider supporting the two net-metering bills (LB 557 and LB 598) being proposed in the 2013 session of the Legislature. These bills are holding public hearings on Tuesday (March 5). The NE Rural Electric Association (REA) and NPPD will most likely testify in opposition to both bills. The REA is a powerful voice in the legislature--its lobbyists get paid to get in the ears of legislators. Now it's time legislators hear from the public! It’s very important we deliver a strong message in favor of both pieces of legislation. Chairman Carlson needs to hear from our farmers, business owners, and private citizens (urban and rural); after all, we are all stakeholders in public power and we all have a say in it.
