  • Please notify RVSD of over allocated space and return the classrooms
Dear RV Charter School Leadership: We respectfully request that Ross Valley Charter (RVC) promptly notify Ross Valley School District that it has over allocated space for in-district students for the 2017-18 school year. Both the spirit and the terms of Proposition 39 facilities allocation requirements warrant the necessity for RVC to do so. It is imperative that RVC leadership comply with the law.   Per RVC’s Enrollment and Status Report dated May 19, RVC had in-district enrollment of 112 students. The subsequent enrollment report from June 3, 2017 shows a decline of in-district enrollment to 109 students. This departure of greater than 40% is a meaningful delta from the 189 in-district students upon which RVC based its request.     According to Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations, Section 11969.8 (b) "A charter school must notify the school district when it anticipates that it will have over-allocated space that could be used by the school district. Upon notification by a charter school that the charter school anticipates having over-allocated space, a school district may elect to use the space for school district programs. The school district must notify the charter school whether or not it intends to use the over-allocated space within 30 days of the notification by the charter school. If the school district notifies the charter school that it intends to use all or a portion of the over-allocated space, payments for over-allocated space and pro rata share payments shall be reduced accordingly beginning at the time of the school district notification to use the space. If the school district notifies the charter school that it does not intend to use the space, the charter school must continue to make payments for over-allocated space and pro rata share payments. The school district may, at its sole discretion, reduce the amounts owed by the charter school."   RVC is scheduled to open in just over 2 months, and enrollment has been open for months. Very little enrollment movement will now happen among RVSD residents. It is time to notify RVSD that you have over allocated space. As you know, hundreds of local children are being displaced. Please follow the law, do what is right by the Fairfax and San Anselmo community, and empower the RVSD to return the sorely needed classrooms to our 6th grade children and teachers so that we, too, can plan for the upcoming year.

  • Pledge for Transparency and Integrity in American Politics
I believe that I have found a solution to the problem of the vitriolic political process here in the United States. I have broken it down into bullet points in order of importance. The Pledge for Transparency and Integrity in Government: 1. Term limits - no person may serve more than 12 years in Congress. That means no more than 6 terms in the house or 2 terms in the Senate. Or 1 term in the Senate and 3 terms in the house. That's it. Done. Go home. 2. No pensions for serving in an elected office. None. Period. Go get a job. 3. No one who has ever been a lobbyist may run for office, and no one who has served in office may become a lobbyist. 4. Eliminate lobbyists and PACs completely. No exceptions. These are the two biggest facilitators of corruption in the United States Government. 5. Campaign finance reform • no one running for office may spend more on their campaign, than 1/4 of the annual salary for the position they are running for. • no individual may donate more than $50 to any campaign or political party. • corporations may not donate more than $50 to any candidate or political party. • no PACs. None. Period. • no TV, radio or print ads. • All media outlets required to cover all candidates equally. • full ballot access to anyone who files the paperwork. No minimum signatures. • all candidates on the ballot must be offered the opportunity to be included in debates, both televised and not. 6. All proposed laws must be limited to one subject. No add-ons of any kind. Also, no law may be longer than the original constitution. No more using confusing clauses and excessive length of bills to hide the intent. 7. Mandatory balanced budget amendment. Without a balanced budget, we cannot fix the broken government. Signed:________________________________ Date:______________________________________ I believe that this should be the first litmus test of a candidate running for office. If a candidate will not sign this pledge, then they are unworthy of our votes. Any candidate unwilling to sign this proves that they are seeking office for personal gain, and not for the good of the American people. If you agree with me, please share this post, and also send a copy of this pledge to the candidates currently running for office, in your district. If We The People, make it clear that no candidate, REGARDLESS of party affiliation, will receive our votes, we can take back our government!

  • Help us send 30,000 comments: Don't strip protections for the sage grouse!
To whom it may concern, The Department of the Interior has proposed a new federal sage-grouse conservation plan. This plan is far weaker than the previous plan, which was put in place after consultation with stakeholders including western governors, scientists, and conservationists. The previous plan was already inadequate to protect the sage-grouse and it should definitely not be weakened. The announced plan revisions threaten to undermine protections for sage-grouse on millions of acres of public lands. Weakening protections could have significant consequences for sage-grouse and other wildlife, sagebrush grasslands and the western communities and economies that depend on them. Rather than weaken the federal plans, the Trump administration should consider ways to improve them. Scientists have identified gaps and deficiencies in the current conservation strategy -- and have recommended measures to strengthen conservation and management of the species: 1. Conserve all of the most important sage-grouse habitat. For example, winter habitat is particularly important to sage-grouse, mule deer, and other wildlife, but the current federal plans fail to protect those areas from harmful land use and development. 2. Connect sage-grouse habitats. The federal government developed fifteen plans covering the sage-grouse's eleven-state range, but failed to stitch them together into a matrix that can provide for the species across federal jurisdictions and state boundaries. 3. Protect sagebrush reserves. It is important, particularly in light of climate change, that land managers set aside areas both where sage-grouse are now and where they will need to go in the future; the current conservation plans fail to provide that direction. 4. Reduce manageable impacts in sage-grouse habitat. Some threats to sage-grouse are difficult to manage, such as wildfire and invasive species. The federal conservation strategy should compensate for those impacts by emphasizing management of land uses that we can control, such as livestock grazing, which contributes to unnatural fire and the spread of invasive species. 5. Restore degraded sage-grouse habitat. Sage-grouse have already lost nearly half their range to agriculture and development. The federal sage-grouse conservation strategy should be updated to support active restoration of areas that can still be used by sage-grouse and other wildlife. I urge you to make the rule more restrictive to be more protective of the sage-grouse. Thank you,

  • Gov. DeSantis - RESTORE COVID Data Transparency in FL!
The Florida Department of Health reported 73,199 new cases for the week ending July 21st. The positivity rate is 15.1% for this past week. 45,605 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 during the week ending Thursday, July 15. The postivity rate for the week ending July 15th was 11%. This is an alarming trend. We need transparency in the data. We need to know how many daily new cases are in our counties, city, and state as a whole. We need to know how many local, county and state hospitalizations and deaths are occurring daily - not a week behind. We should not be flying blind during a surge that has Florida making headlines all over the United States. When Gov. DeSantis stopped the daily reporting on June 4th, the reasoning given by his Press Secretary was that, “COVID-19 cases have significantly decreased over the past year as we have a less than 5% positivity rate, and our state is returning to normal, with vaccines widely available throughout Florida.” Just over a month from June 4th, cases started to rise and have continued to rise exponentially and we are over double digits for positivity rate. This is NOT normal. Hospitals are crowded and overwhelmed again, and community spread is rampant. Because of the lack of daily data, the community is not being properly informed. We are now at a point where real-time information is not only necessary, but critical to helping us understand where hot-spots are and where to raise the level of alert within our communities. As of July 15th, nearly one-in-five of the nation’s new COVID-19 infections are from Florida and numbers are going up faster than any time since June of 2020. Real time data is crucial in order for individuals, businesses, schools, and communities to make informed choices so we can help stop the spread and begin to set our sights on lowering the positivity rate. We can no longer operate on data this is a week behind. Sign this petition to let Gov. DeSantis hear that WE, THE PEOPLE of the state of FL -the constituents HE serves, want transparency in the data...and we deserve that for our own safety and the safety and well-being of our friends, family, co-workers, students, and our communities as a whole. Pass it on!

  • “The Sentinel Act”: Electronic Monitoring of Nursing Home Premises
Rhode Island a year in review of Elder Care: Pawtuxet Village closed after overdosing, death, and neglect issues. An on duty nurse employed while wearing an ankle bracelet as court ordered. Hebert Nursing Home in Smithfield multiple allegations of sexual assaults on female resident and 5 “whistle blower” nurses lose their jobs. Summerville Assisted Living an ongoing investigation of a murdered resident by another resident, living as a convicted felon at the facility and “caught on surveillance cameras”. In lieu of victims coming forward and these disturbing cases, the Alliance for Safe Communities, www.asc-ri.org will be introducing “ The Sentinel Act” Bill H5251 Electronic Monitoring of Nursing Home Premises. This law will afford video surveillance be provided in common areas in all nursing home areas. Families will be offered the opportunity to have a camera installed in the patients’ room, “opt in or opt out.” This is not expensive technology with an average routine cost of about $20.00 a month. The new Obama care plan and other federal funds may provide for the necessary cost. Privacy can be maintained by having “in house review”, of the video of which will be stored for a limited time. Some states such as Texas have mandated cameras in all nursing homes due to serious cases of documented abuse and neglect. Families nationwide have begun to “plant” video surveillance cameras in loved ones rooms. Be warned the footage of abuse presents terrible images: http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=youtube+nursing+home+abuse Video surveillance cameras in nursing homes offer an opportunity for the health care industry to provide for better health care and protection of our elders. It also protects them from liability without impeding their ability to care for the patients. The face of the elder population being served in facilities is changing. More mentally ill, criminals, and sex offenders are often introduced into facilities. There is no mandatory notification by law to other residents or their families. Our vulnerable elderly citizens are exposed each day to multiple care givers with varying degree of skills, many of whom are strangers, to the patient. The time has come for change in the nursing home industry. Families are moving forward with 21st century technology and so must the providers who care for our most vulnerable population. We therefore ask for your support by signing this petition in support of protecting our elderly.

  • Justice for Viola Muhammad
In 2012, Mrs. Viola Reovan-Muhammad, a former CNA of 22 years at St. Vincent’s Medical Center located in Bridgeport, CT, began to be targeted by her supervisor, Helen Krisinsky. Under the supervision of Helen Krisinsky, Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad was a victim of extreme forms of oppression and stress. Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad has been called “nigger,” had her HIPAA rights violated, and was denied compensation for well over an estimated 5,000 hours of overtime work while employed at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad’s cries for help and resolve fell on deaf ears at the Human Resources Department of St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Any attempts she made either directly with Ms. Krisinsky or through the HR Dept. to address the oppressive treatment only intensified the harassment. Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad had to contemplate how to maintain her health and protect her job. In an attempt to avoid conflict with her supervisor she created a “buddy system” with other CNA’s where she would partner with another CNA who would monitor her every move during shifts as a witness to her integrity and completion of her work. Despite the fact that Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad has 22 years of experience and positive performance evaluations, this could not protect her from the discriminatory actions and practices of St. Vincent’s Medical Center or Ms. Krisinsky. On June 5, 2013, Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad brought her story to the State of CT Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO), filed an official discrimination complaint, and has since secured legal representation. Of course Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad’s experiences are not isolated incidents; there are many other victims whose voices remain to be heard! Let St. Vincent’s Medical Center know that you will not support or tolerate their discriminatory acts and practices! Join us in the fight to bring justice to Mrs. Reovan-Muhammad and sign our petition demanding: - the immediate dismissal of Ms. Helen Krisinsky. - an investigation of St. Vincent’s Medical Center by Ascension Health. Ascension Health declares, “We are advocates for a compassionate and just society through our actions and our words,” and commits themselves to serving especially poor and vulnerable communities. - Ascension Health hold the Human Resources Dept. of St. Vincent’s Medical Center accountable for failing to investigate and address the cries of the victims of their discriminatory practices.

  • The People's Power Agenda
We the undersigned, members of the NEW American Revolution are more than Democrats, Republicans and Independents, we are Americans. American voters to be precise and we demand an end to the dysfunction in our government. We Demand... 1. The creation of a “Penny for your Debts Tax”, a .01 tax on every $1.00 of stock, bond or derivative traded and any other financial speculation to go directly towards our National debt. 2. A budget that leaves Social Security changes of any kind “off the table” until the Social Security fund has been paid in full, the $2.7 T it is owed by the United States of America. 3. Pass the American Anti-Corruption Act: a law that would overhaul campaign finance, impose strict lobbying and conflict of interest laws, and end secret political money. 4. Passage of a bill that addresses the immediate crisis facing America, the Jobs deficit. 5. Passage of common sense gun control legislation that is supported by the “People” and NOT the gun lobby (NRA or groups like it). 6. Repeal the 2006 Postal Accountability Enhancement Act (PAEA) which mandates that the US Postal Service fully fund the health benefits of future retirees. 7. Pass Fair and Humane Immigration Reform with a clear pathway to citizenship. 8. Reduce carbon pollution by 17 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. 9. Reduce ‘short-lived climate pollutants’ by including a phase out of hydro-fluorocarbons in the Montreal Protocol. 10. Limit the production of dirty tar sands oil by rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline. 11. Establish federal policies that increase demand for clean electricity 12. Reform the tax code to favor clean, renewable energy and end Big Oil tax breaks and subsidies. 13. Establish a heavy tax on carbon emissions and major regulation of coal, oil and gas companies including holding them fully responsible and financially accountable for accidents without litigation. 14. Establish science-based policies that enhance and enforce the Clean Water Act of 1972 in order to protect important streams and wetlands. 15. Remove the 60 vote threshold that is needed to stop a filibuster in the United States Senate, which has been an obstruction of our democracy. 16. Put a permanent end to “Too Big To Fail” and “Too Big To Jail” banking policies and re-authorize Glass/Steagall.

  • NRA Members: Withdraw Your Membership Now!
This is a call to any responsible, rational minded, reasonable NRA members to pull your membership from the organization immediately in response to LaPierre's statements at his 12/21 press conference. LaPierre's much awaited response after the Sandy Hook tragedy was cold, confrontational, and unbelievable. The man blamed gun control advocates, video games, and the media with barely any mention of actual guns at all. His, and thus, the NRA's official "meaningful contribution" is to ban video game guns instead of real ones. It was a slap in the face to the victims of mass murder and their families. LaPierre argued that we should enact the immediate arming of schools across the country. Advocating what we feel is a society much akin to the old days of the Wild West, LaPierre fails to take a rational stance. The clear and simple reason, we believe, is to sell more guns and keep the arms industry growing. The United States makes up roughly 5% of the world population, yet we own 50% of the world's guns. Blaming the violent video games does not make sense. These games are played around the world, yet we have the 10th highest per capita death by gun ranking in the world. I think we can all recall that there were armed guards at Virginia Tech in 2007. Even Fort Hood, a military base, couldn't stop a single gunman before he killed 13 people and wounded 29 others. We can't stop every tragedy, there will always be ill people who will try and inflict violence upon others. However, if we ban semi-automatic weapons along with high capacity cartridges, we can limit the amount of damage that one shooter can inflict. We are calling upon those NRA members who agree with reasonable limits such as an assault weapons ban to sign this petition and withdraw your NRA membership. Tell Wayne LaPierre that enough is enough. By withdrawing your membership you can tell the NRA that the innocent victims such as those of Sandy Hook Elementary deserve better. The weapons industry and the NRA were not elected to make decisions about this issue. Let the government do their job and support an assault weapons ban. No one is asking you to give up your 2nd Amendment rights. Reasonable limitations are allowed in the bill. We must put safety before profits for the arms industry.
