  • Reform The New Michigan Auto Law
If you feel that there should be reforms made to the New Michigan Auto Law then we need your support. This bill was written at the last second and forced through the House and the Senate with little or no time for the legislators to see what was really buried within the bill. We feel that is important that they are made aware of these flaws and reforms are made to correct the New Michigan Auto Law. Please sign our electronic form and show your support for reform.

  • Vaccinate The Servers
We, the Service Industry Workers of Grand Rapids, call on you to immediately expand the county’s vaccination program eligibility to include all active service industry workers. As Michigan’s state government reopens eating and dining establishments, service sector workers are forced into unsafe conditions. Service industry workers do not qualify for vaccines and will be exposed to ever more transmissible variants of the virus spread nationwide. This is a political choice. Service sector workers don’t matter to Michigan’s Democrats or Republicans. Their lives are disposable for the sake of economic “health.” We are counting on you, our county officials, to stand up for the safety of the Service Industry Workers of Kent County. The science is unequivocal, fewer people in restaurants will save lives. Governor Whitmer said that in defense of closing indoor dining before. And yet just last week the governor increased bar and restaurant capacity from 25% to 50% of total capacity. This means increased exposure and increased risk for those working in the food and beverage industry. The decision to reopen has nothing to do with the health of Michigan’s residents and everything to do with organizations like the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association tirelessly demanding restrictions be lifted. Workers have no good choices. If their restaurant decides to reopen they are unable to collect unemployment. Employers often tell workers that refusal to work is insubordination, allowing them to make their termination “with cause” and ineligible for unemployment. While the Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity states that, “Merely being afraid to return to work is not good cause,” workers have every right to be afraid. A recent CNBC article said, “A new study from the University of California, San Francisco suggests that line cooks have the highest risk of mortality during the Covid pandemic — even more than healthcare workers.” Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Elizabeth Hertel stated “We know when we loosen restrictions we will probably see cases rise again” in a press conference on Tuesday, March 2nd. This is an open admission that service industry workers are being put at an increased risk of exposure to Covid-19. And yet the state has done nothing to improve the safety of workers in bars and restaurants that are now seeing increased traffic with the raised capacity. Service sector workers are dying for profit. Every politician in the state of Michigan that doesn’t do all in their power to either vaccinate workers immediately or shut the sector down is complicit. It requires politicians to stand up for workers and against bosses. It demands that they put people’s lives over profit. Therefore we demand the Kent County Health Department follow the example set by Mayor Mike Duggan and the City of Detroit on February 2nd when they expanded vaccine eligibility to workers in restaurants/bars, grocery stores, meat packing and food and beverage handling within the city. Vaccination of service industry workers ensures the safety of both the worker and the customer. By this simple action you will be protecting a vast majority of the residents of the Kent County. Workers and customers alike will be able to go out to eat and socialize again with the confidence that those on both sides of the counter are safe and healthy. Keep us safe! Sincerely, Grand Rapids Service Industry Workers Coalition

  • Block the $20 BILLION weapons sale to the Israeli military NOW!
More than 41,689 Palestinian people and 1,000 Lebanese people have been killed by Netanyahu's escalating military campaign of airstrikes. These airstrikes (which are violations of international law) have been targeting and bombing civilians in refugee camps, hospitals, homes, mosques, churches, and schools since more than 1,200 Israelis were killed and more than 240 taken hostage in the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. A group of U.S. doctors and health care providers who have volunteered in Gaza in the last year estimate that the number of Palestinian people killed by the Israeli military is likely closer to 118,908. The truth is, our taxpayer dollars and U.S. weapons are being used to fund and carry out the relentless bombing of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians. It's heartbreaking and wrong, but we can do something about it. Last week, Senator Bernie Sanders introduced a Joint Resolutions of Disapproval that will (for the first time in history) force a vote in Congress to block the weapons sale to the Israeli military. Resolutions of Disapproval are the ONLY tool that Congress has to block arm sales. We must use it and we must use it now. Will you sign the petition to demand that the $20 billion weapon sale to the Israeli military be blocked NOW?

  • Keep ALL Oil & Gas Wastewater Off Our Roads!
More than 2.2 million gallons of toxic, radioactive oil & gas drilling wastewater were spread on PA roads between 2018 when the DEP declared a moratorium on the practice and the end of 2020. A ban of the spreading of fracking wastewater in 2016 has been effective in stopping road spreading of unconventional wastewater, but conventional drillers are using a loophole called Coproduct Determination to continue spreading their waste legally in spite of the moratorium. The conventional drillers' industry association PIOGA states very clearly that conventional drillers now frack and that some even use horizontal drilling. The only difference now is that conventional wells are drilled in limestone layers that sit atop the shale. Studies have shown, however, that there is a relationship between the limestone layers and the shale rock below and that, in some cases, higher levels of concerning chemicals have been found in the limestone layers than in the shale rock. The threats to public health and the environment are too grave to allow this further road spreading. It's time to ban ALL road spreading.

  • No Nobel Peace Prize for Trump!
Trump is angling for a Nobel Peace Prize—a distinguished award granted to leaders or organizations who broker lasting peace between nations. Republicans have suggested that Trump’s attacks on Iran make him a candidate for the award, but potentially embroiling the United States in more endless wars shouldn’t be an award-winning act—it should be immediately disqualifying for a Nobel Peace Prize. And domestically, he’s put countless lives at risk as his administration terrorizes everyday people with inhumane mass raids, destroys our social safety nets, and sows division and hate. Trump has caused uncertainty in the global economy and has cozied up to dangerous and corrupt leaders—he should NOT be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

Congress needs to start the impeachment proceedings (now ) because it was the right thing to do. Do not under estimate my fellow American’s patience and resolve to see this through. We cannot play politics with this unless we want the corruption to continue.

  • Call for an investigation of Oxnard, California's, City Manager and his office
It has become clear to many that Alexander Nguyen of Oxnard's City Manager's office is no longer performing his job properly or in the best interest of the people of this city. Nguyen regularly feels the need to speak at great length during City Council meetings or Town Halls with his personal opinions and agendas, and less about what's actually good for the city, with evidence of how that's true. He speaks and expects the world to accept his pearls of wisdom as truth and as the only options that can possibly work and then criticizes anyone who says differently or questions his motives. His office has been known to publicly criticize citizens running for public office in the name of his city office, criticize public speakers at City Council meetings, and to send out erroneous information on  city letterhead. His actions are clearly focusing on certain areas of the city while leaving other areas unattended to, namely the south and poorer end of the city, while focusing on the newer, richer north end and beach areas. This is a man who wants to run the city on behalf of his own agendas, not on behalf of the Mayor and the City Council to which he really serves. The City Council needs to call on an independent auditor to audit the City Manager and his office to determine if he's really suitable for this job. If not, they need to vote to remove him from office as soon as possible and get this city back on track. Here is some evidence of his and his office's behavior: Public Works Meeting of 4/8/2025 where he berates a lawyer who called in during public comment by calling him "dramatic."  The public has the right to say anything they want (on topic) without fear of being berated by City officials. https://www.youtube.com/live/1dfI8s_5e2Y?t=513s In this speech, he condescendingly tries to give the council information on the housing crisis in California by comparing it to a pizza. At the end of it he’ll tell the council that parking and traffic aren’t important considerations. https://www.youtube.com/live/CBXDM4YQV7U?t=14404s He came to Oxnard from a scandalous time for City managers in Riverside CA.  https://thirtymilesofcorruption.com/2018/03/02/city-of-riverside-taxpayers-now-proud-owners-of-city-manager-john-russos-house/ His office also started an unwarranted investigation into the City Treasurer which started looking like a vendetta. Nguyen wanted him out, so he trumped up charges against him by finding 2 people in the treasurer’s office who had problems with him. They said that he was inappropriate sexually with them. Nguyen had them write out statements, and then FIRED the City Treasurer, even though it’s an elected office and he can’t be fired. The treasurer took it to court an the judge reinstated his job, but Nguyen still got his hands into it and has now relieved the Treasurer of most of his powers and duties, turning them over to the chief of police, who isn’t even qualified to handle the finances! So we’re paying a treasurer who can’t do his job. Turns out, the two complaining employees hadn’t even reported anything to HR, because it was non-issues at the time, and if it were true, should have been handled by HR, not in the  City Attorney’s office.  But when Nguyen wants something, he does anything to make it happen. This is all costing the people of Oxnard money when the City is sued. https://www.vcstar.com/story/news/local/communities/oxnard/2021/05/12/oxnard-city-treasurer-denied-access-unredacted-report/4997746001/ "The council did that once already, in 2020, and Molina sued. The city won at the trial court level in 2023, but the lawsuit ended last year with a victory for Molina in state appeals court, followed by the Supreme Court of California's refusal to hear the city's last chance at an appeal."

  • Amazon: Stop Violating the Rights of Disabled Employees!
The Issue A recent article highlights the ongoing struggle of Amazon employees with disabilities facing systemic discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. This exposé underscores the urgent need for Amazon to overhaul its policies and practices to truly support employees with disabilities. Read the full article here: The Guardian - Discrimination Against Disabled Amazon Workers https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/30/disabled-amazon-workers-discrimination One stark example: An Amazon worker who suffered multiple strokes and can no longer drive asked for remote work as a necessary disability accommodation. Instead of honoring this request, Amazon told them to “just move closer” to the office or take public transit—an unacceptable and discriminatory response. This is just one of many stories revealing how Amazon denies real, verified accommodations—an ongoing violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We are calling on Amazon leadership to act now and implement meaningful reforms to ensure full compliance and respect for disability rights. Why is this urgent? Recent surveys among Amazon employees with disabilities reveal a distressing reality: • 93% report policies harmful to their well-being. • 71% say their accommodation needs are unmet or denied. • 50% experience hostile work environments after requesting accommodations. • 92% lack accessible communication or reporting channels. • 77% are told they don’t qualify for roles despite meeting basic criteria. • 92% face unfair treatment, including denial of promotions or resources. • Nearly 70% fear requesting future accommodations due to retaliation. • 80% believe management dismisses their concerns. These alarming statistics expose a workplace rife with discrimination, retaliation, and systemic failure—especially for those with disabilities. Amazon’s refusal to address these issues perpetuates harm, undermines trust, and violates legal obligations. Our Demands In light of these injustices, we demand immediate, comprehensive action from Amazon to rectify these violations and build an inclusive, accessible workplace: 1. Transparent Interactive Process: Ensure all accommodation requests are responded to promptly, documented, and explored thoroughly, including all viable alternatives. 2. Guarantee Remote & Flexible Work: Employees must retain the right to work remotely or with flexible schedules if medically necessary, supported by proper documentation—without arbitrary limits. 3. Eliminate Automated Denials: Disallow AI-based automatic rejection systems; decisions must involve human review. Publish algorithms and rationales for transparency and accountability. 4. Revise Hiring & Leave Policies: Extend timeframes, ensure pay matching, and clarify procedures—eliminating vague language that dismisses or dismisses employees’ accommodation needs. 5. Accessible Tools & Procedures: All workplace communication, reporting, and tools must be accessible to employees with disabilities. 6. Enforce Anti-Retaliation & Safe Reporting: Implement strict policies with confidential channels for reporting discrimination, with penalties for violations. 7. Ongoing Disability Rights Training: Regular training for management and HR, with policies developed in collaboration with the disability union group. 8. Prompt Safety & Accessibility Improvements: Conduct audits and address hazards swiftly. 9. Clear, Consistent Policies: Publish all policies affecting employees with disabilities—fully transparent and compliant with the ADA. 10. Independent Oversight: Appoint an independent body to monitor compliance, investigate complaints, and enforce policies. 11. Protect Privacy & Fair Investigations: Publish clear policies on HIPAA protections, investigations, and handling of discrimination complaints—ensuring confidentiality. 12. Remove Arbitrary Timelines: Provide adequate time for medical documentation requests or delays caused by Amazon without penalizing employees. 13. Stop Interference with Collective Bargaining: Cease retaliation and interference against union organizing efforts. Amazon must respect workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively, including protecting the newly formed disability union group. The recent NLRB complaint against Apple for interfering with workers’ organizing efforts sets a precedent—Amazon's ongoing violations must be addressed immediately.
