Tell Governor Cuomo to lower the drinking age in New York State from 21 to 18. Each year, over 40,000 people in the United States die because of binge drinking. For many, this begins in college, drinking to excess because they don't know their limits. If the drinking age was lower, young people would develop a healthier relationship with alcohol and know not to abuse it once they have the right to actually drink. Many young people under the age of 21 already use and abuse alcohol. Because this is still illegal, they are forced to do this in secretive and dangerous ways. If caught, these individuals can face police action that can damage their futures and the rest of their lives. By keeping it secret and illegal, people under the age of 21 often end up in deadly situations. By the time a person is 18 years old, they are able to join the Armed Forces, and must register for the draft. This means that they can die for their country without having even drank a beer. 18-year-olds are also allowed to vote for politicians running for political office. They may also be sent to jail for breaking the law. If 18-year-olds can die fighting for their country, vote and go to prison, they should be able to drink.

We call on Secretary Clinton, as a resident and former Senator for New York, to issue a public statement calling for the New York Senate's “independent” Democratic Caucus to bring the Fair Elections Act up for a vote before the end of the current legislative session.

Buyou Art Lofts Mission Statement: Share Space that builds Synergy This corporation aims to advance critical, self-discovery through shared self-development experiences; address industry and societal challenges; foster collaboration and partnership development across industry, academia, government, nonprofits, civil society, and communities of practice; stimulate economic growth and job creation; and serve as a conduit to regional innovation and talent.   I/We write to express support for the FLUM Zoning Designation Change of Mixed-Use Low-Density to support the proposed “Buyou Art Lofts” development proposed at 5700 + 5775 Deer Park Blvd. This proposed development is essential to address a critical need for new, modern, workforce housing that will monetize the development’s small business mission of increasing entrepreneurship in New Orleans East.    Zoning Support:  I/We support the City of New Orleans Master Plan Future Land Use Map Amendment (FLUM) PD09-09 because the amendment acknowledges single-family, duplex, four-plex, multi-family, commercial, and/or mixed-use land use options.  The amendment promotes commercial development and diverse housing options that together, co-dependently, each sector above, stimulates economic growth through flexible land uses.    This amendment aligns with the City of New Orleans' broader goal of ensuring that New Orleans East is economically positioned to attract diverse business and housing options that foster community vitality.   Proximity to Public Amenities: The strategic location of PD09-09 is in proximity to facilities that include: retail/service, medical, office, town home housing, and single-family housing.  Both, the Lake Forest Blvd. and Deer Park Blvd. corridors have a mix of land uses amid land that was occupied pre-Hurricane Katrina, and since presents increased disinvestment, yet are vacant land “opportunity gaps.”  Additional amenities in the area include: New Orleans East Hospital, National Blue Ribbon Lake Forest Elementary Charter School, Abramson Sci Academy, Read Public Library, the City of New Orleans 1st Nationally Accredited Joe Brown Park, 1 of 5 recognized Top National Urban Nature Centers (Louisiana Audubon), public transportation, and neighborhood scale retail. Tell Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Dallas, and every other American city that they should not spend taxpayers' money to pad the wallets of Amazon's stockholders and boost the paychecks of its management.

New York's children deserve to have highly qualified teachers in all its schools. The proposed rule changes would prove detrimental to Black and Brown students especially, as they make up the majority of charter school students. Improving our education system begins with ensuring all of New York's students have qualified teachers. Please reject any weakening of teacher certification standards for charter schools.

Pass A7462/S5572, the TRUMP Act now. We need to ensure that all statewide elected officials, including President Trump, to release their tax returns. We should ensure that the President, Vice President, and statewide officials not be able to hide their tax returns now or in the future.

With the addition of new conservative-leaning show hosts Nicolle Wallace, Greta Van Susteren, and possibly Hugh Hewitt, it is evident that MSNBC has been shifting toward a more centrist/right focus. In the era of Trump and Republican control of all three branches of government, America needs balanced news coverage more than ever before. Please maintain MSNBC's role as the America's primary progressive news network.
