  • Stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement in CT
We urge the CT Congressional Delegation to vote no on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The Administration and the US Trade Representative have negotiated a new trade deal with 11 other nations (Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore,Viet Nam and Japan) We have seen how past trade agreements, based on the same failed “free trade” model, have hurt Connecticut families. For example, Connecticut has lost more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs – more than one out of three – since the 1994 NAFTA and the World Trade Organization agreements took effect. We also urge members of the CT Legislative Assembly as well as city and town councils to speak out against the TPP.

  • KEEP IGNORANCE AND BIGOTRY OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE
Dear Senator, By making Steve Bannon first among equals in the White House, the Trump administration is undermining the equality we value for all people. This former chairman of Breitbart News has encouraged and amplified views that are beyond offensive and categorically unacceptable, and the NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, and Anti-Defamation League have condemned his rise to leadership in the White House. Furthermore, he has insulted our country's dedicated climate scientists, calling them "talentless low-lives" and "abject liars," and deemed climate advocates "eco Nazis" and "scum-sucking slime balls." I urge you to strongly and vocally oppose Bannon's appointment and to do everything in your power to block him from serving in the new administration.

  • Revert Fannie Mae's changes to the treatment of Student Loans
Fannie Mae, a pseudo-government agency, has as of 5/31/2016 changed they way they treat student loans for one's debt to income ratio or DTI. They now require underwriters to take 1% of the ENTIRE balance of the student loan as your monthly obligation, among other unhelpful options, despite the fact that the ACTUAL payment may only be 10% of that amount under B3-6-05: Monthly Debt Obligations. This is clearly an attempt to keep out new buyers with high student loan debt in order to keep them renting and/or further prevent individuals from getting more space for a growing family. This new rule in no way helps prevent a purchaser from over buying as student loan payments are either fixed or tied to your income.

  • Help save our economy and ecosystems with a provision to the Endangered Species Act
Enable Wildlife Agencies to conduct studies to determine whether new business developments to an area will efficiently and effectively co-exist with local wildlife and habitat under a provision to the Endangered Species Act, which would prevent areas of vital ecological importance to be commercially or residencially developed on by corperations, franchises, or urban sprawl. Areas with any threatened species must be safe-guarded under this new provision which would also regardless of threatened or non-threatened species local to these areas be further subjected to limitations on how many franchised expansions can exist within a given areas local economy and ecosystems. This provision would be safe-guarded for future generations under the United States Constitution and once passed could not omited from the Endangered Species Act.

  • Thank you for calling for a renewable energy based Replacement Power Plan
Thank you for sponsoring and supporting the resolution stating Santa Fe’s position against PNM’s Replacement Power Plan and claim for unearned assets and calling for an alternative plan based on renewables. Thank you for giving the public the opportunity to weigh-in on this very critical issue, for listening to our concerns, and for intervening in the PRC case on behalf of the community’s interests. As your resolution states, “the closure of San Juan Units 2 & 3 presents a critical opportunity to transition away from New Mexico’s investment in fossil fuels and nuclear energy and presents an opportunity to rapidly deploy renewable energy technologies to meet New Mexico’s energy demands.” I look forward to continuing to work together to create an energy future that reflects the vision and values of our community! Sincerely,

  • Permanent Military Spending Caps
We demand that Military and Defense spending be kept to no more than 10% of our nations federal tax revenue on any given fiscal year. This would reduce military spending from over 700 Billion in publicly acknowledged spending and permanently cap it at around 300 Billion. This can easily be accomplished by: 1)Permanantly closing 300 overseas military bases. (currenlty 600-700 worldwide) 2)Permanantly capping spending on the purchase or research of new weapons systems to 5% of the reduced military budget or 15 Billion a year. 3)Reducing our worldwide standing Naval presence by half from 300 ships to150. The USA should no longer be the exemplification of a global military empire. The US Military Industrial Complex can migrate to new and more meaningful business markets and pursuits.

  • Representative Erik Paulsen: Support VOTING RIGHTS ACT
Last year, the Supreme Court gutted the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then, new laws that would restrict exactly what the Voting Rights Act was meant to protect have been implemented. Many states mobilized efforts to disenfranchise voters, especially elderly, people of color, and women. We now have a chance to correct that. Recently, Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI), and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced new legislation—the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014—that would strengthen the Voting Rights Act. This bill is the best vehicle we currently have. Even though it doesn't protect against voter ID laws, it is a beginning. Rep. Paulsen, please become a sponsor.

  • Gov. Wolf: Respond to DOH Documents by Stopping Fracking
We, the undersigned, urge you to respond to recent news of negligence and inadequate response on the part of the Pennsylvania Department of Health by placing a moratorium on fracking in Pennsylvania immediately. We have serious concerns following the release of documents showing that the Pennsylvania Department of Health consistently provided inadequate responses to fracking-related health complaints. Please act immediately to stop the issuance of new fracking permits, and put forward a plan to help those who have been impacted by fracking. Please protect the people of Pennsylvania by stopping fracking immediately. The lack of response to fracking-related health complaints by our state health agency is jarring, and the only appropriate path forward is to halt this dangerous process and enact a plan to get help to those who have already been adversely impacted by fracking.

  • Pull Rush's Misogyny From the Sacramento Region's Airwaves
To be delivered to: Chris Squires, Program Director, KFBK Radio Pull the Rush Limbaugh Show from KFBK and replace it with a news show. Rush Limbaugh's anti-woman rants have gone so far that it is unacceptable for KBFK to profit from filling the Sacramento region's airwaves with his hate and misogyny. Limbaugh called a law student who testified on behalf of insurance coverage for contraceptives a "slut" and a "prostitute" and publicly suggested that she post videos of herself having sex on the Internet. If Rush were using such blatant and unabashed slurs about a racial or ethnic group, his repulsive vitriol would never be broadcast. With so many important issues of the day, we suggest that placing a greater emphasis on NEWS rather than TALK better serves the city of Sacramento and the region.
