  • U.S. Senators: Artists Thrive on an Open Internet
Keep the internet open. Artists, whether painters, musicians, writers, poets or any other person expressing a concept through art, need to be free to present their work to each other and the world.

  • Don't Leave Poor People Out of the Minimum Wage Debate
When the voices of low-wage workers and community leaders are leading the conversation, we see real progress on fair pay. In states like Minnesota and Seattle, movements led by low-wage workers have led to lawmakers voting to increase minimum wage. Yet in your coverage on the Senate’s failure to call a vote on a minimum wage increase, you did not quote or reference anyone actually impacted by this legislation. Affecting national change takes more than debates between politicians and lobbyists on Capitol Hill. We need the stories of real low-wage workers who are living in poverty at the forefront of the media -- and we call on your to report responsibly on the impact of this issue on millions of low-wage workers by lifting up their voices and experiences. We are signing this petition to ensure that the fight for a national minimum wage increase is no longer a one-sided debate, and to call on your publication to make sure that our nation needs to hear from the working poor.

  • Tell Mike Coffman to stop hiding from his anti-choice record
Rep. Mike Coffman has a long record of support for a total ban on abortion. Coffman supported the Personhood abortion ban when it originally appeared on the ballot in 2008. Before this year, Coffman campaigned on his hard-line opposition to reproductive choice, flat-out saying “I oppose abortion in all cases of rape and incest.” Coffman even co-sponsored legislation in Congress to redefine the meaning of the word “rape” to make it harder for rape victims to get an abortion, making a horrible situation even more difficult. Now Rep. Mike Coffman, who represents Colorado’s Sixth District in Congress and a sworn opponent of all abortions even in cases of rape or incest, says he no longer supports the Personhood abortion bans that have failed repeatedly in Colorado. Rep. Coffman, stop hiding from your record on abortion. Flip-flopping on Personhood isn’t enough to overcome a political career built on denying women access to reproductive choice.

  • BAN Assault Weapons Nationwide
My wife and daughter work at the Danbury Hospital that received the people who arrived dead or wounded from the Rocky Hill Middle School. Despicable acts like this are a shame to this beautiful country. If we do nothing over 33,000 people will die from a shotgun next year. We can do better than have weapons easily available around civilians. Stop the control on interest for the N.R.A. and its control over the lawmakers of the country. Stop delaying action. BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS NOW!

  • $30 Mobile phone upgrade fee charged by Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and others
We, the undersigned, object to mobile phone companies charging customers an additional fee for making the phones they sell ready for their customers to use. The contracted monthly fees for service, usually for two-years, are such that they allow the companies to recover the actual cost of the devices during the contract term. The additional fee per phone, about $30, is usually a surprise to the customer inasmuch as it is assessed after the service contract is presented for signing. The $30 fee is predatory behavior by the mobile phone companies and it should not be allowed.
