On March 15, the Paradise Valley Unified School District board fired Cynthia Davis, the beloved principal of Paradise Valley High School, SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE IS A GAY WOMAN. Principals and District Staff: We call on you to denounce this action and to advise the school board to undertake the actions cited in this petition. Members of the School Board: We call on you to: A) Apologize to Principal Davis for handling the matter in this manner; B) Reverse your decision to fire Principal Davis and re-hire her; C) Apologize to the entire LGBTQ community in PVUSD and to the alumni, teachers, students, parents, staff, and other friends affiliated with the district who have been affected by this; and D) Present a plan to advance diversity goals for LGBTQ people affiliated with the district, addressing students, staff, and other constituency groups. Discrimination against LGBTQ people is unacceptable in our city and especially in our city’s school districts. Please take swift action on this issue to heal the wounds that have already been inflicted.

Right now our automobile license plates are limited to combinations of 7 letters or numbers. Our southern neighbor, NC, has no problem with making 8-character plates. Neither should VA. Let VA drivers have an extra letter!

From Ulster Country Residents/Visitors, and Central Hudson customers:  We would like to ask Central Hudson Gas and Electric, along with its parent company Fortis Energy, to make some accomodations for a small public recreation site to its property that borders Sturgeon Pool in Rifton.  Sturgeon Pool is a beautiful reservoir near the hamlet of Rifton, in the Town of Esopus in Ulster County, New York. It was created by damming the Wallkill River just above Rondout Creek, with plans for a hydroelectricity production facility just over 100 years ago. These efforts were met with some local and state assistance in securing lands for what is now known as Central Hudson Gas and Electric.  Sturgeon Pool is home to Central Hudson's Dashville facility, which generates power and serves a lot of local residents. There are nearly 800 acres of surrounding property that comprise this property. Enclosed are the generation assets and 'training' facilities. There is also some use of this property for recreational purposes, for Central Hudson employees only.  Local residents would ask that Central Hudson, and its parent company Fortis, please consider the following project within its current community investment efforts. (https://www.fortisinc.com/sustainability/community) Project: A public access and parking area along Route 213 in Rifton NY, for limited public recreation and enjoyment area at/adjacent to Sturgeon Pool.  ~Note there are a few points to consider: *Safety: Over the years there have been some really close calls here: with some people fishing, walking along/ parking along the highway there. Kids are fishing there all the time and love it! It's time to consider allowing for more accessible means of enjoying this waterway and addressing a known safety issue, too!  * Senator Chuck Schumer was instrumental in securing over $3.4+million dollars for this specific site/facility's upgrade, through the Infrastructure Act benefitting numerous Upstate New York economic projects. A very small part of this public funding be used as thanks for this funding/generosity, and again as part of its own community investment efforts, in allowing for some small area public access to this lake, recreation, fishing, etc.. * Not just for residents, but Central Hudson customers!: There are currently over 180,000 Ulster County residents who are Central Hudson customers.  This petition will be shared with the personnel/offices for the Ulster Co Executive, Sen Chuck Schumer, Mr. Joe Jenkins and others of Central Hudson. Further, as part of this effort, communications have been made requesting Fortis consider this as part of its community investment efforts online. To add, other executives at Fortis, along with members of its board will be contacted as well.

New President Donald Trump allegedly has not paid income taxes for many years going back as far as 1999. Tell him, Congress and everyone else that we want to be like him. We want to pay NO personal income tax for 2016! Additionally, we want Congress to pass laws that give real people the same rights as corporations so we can retain more of our earnings like the 1 "Percenters" and corporations.

President Obama must immediately revoke the regulatory framework of the Bush-era registry program called National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS), which predominantly targeted Muslim immigrants based on their countries of origin. In the hands of Donald Trump, this program can potentially be used to target, register, and deport Muslims--on a much larger scale than previously implemented. This is the moment to shut this program down once and for all and to resist any new effort.

The world is watching and we are representing the worse disenfranchisement model for democracy with the electoral college system. One person - One vote is the standard that we advocate for new democratic societies and is the standard for US elections for all contests except presidential elections. Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin recently sent out severely flawed lists of voters supposedly flagged as felons to Arkansas county clerks. As much as 90% of the names on these lists are wrong, containing voters who have had their rights restored already, and large numbers of voters who'd never had a felony conviction at all. RESET the voter rolls and send out a new, accurate list, instead of leaving this huge fix to the county clerks' offices.
