  • Defend Immigrant families and students in Woodburn Schools
To: Woodburn School Board Chair Noemi Legaspi, vice-chair Rosie Burkoff and all members,  On behalf of students, community members and immigrant justice organizations, we demand that the Woodburn School Board take a stance to support the safety and welcoming of all students by passing Resolution No. 25-001, “Reaffirming Safe and Welcoming Schools for All.”  We are extremely disappointed in the recent actions taken by the Woodburn School board, which resulted in the failed passing of the “Reaffirming Safe and Welcoming Schools for All,” on February 25th, 2025. This action contradicts the collective values of the Woodburn Community, it stands against Oregon Sanctuary Status and it creates a systemic risk towards our immigrant families.  In the 2023-2024 school year, 87% of Woodburn students and 42% of teachers identified as Latino or Hispanic.  A majority of Woodburn residents also come from immigrant families. Immigrant families are currently facing increased toxic stress and fear as a result of federal immigration enforcement that have resulted in targeted and even mass immigration raids around the country.  While some board members have suggested that this is just a political issue, the threat of immigration raids and deportation brings real, material impacts to the students that the Woodburn School Board represents. Our public schools must do everything in their power to create accessible and safe learning environments for all students, regardless of their immigration status.  By reaffirming safe and welcoming schools for all, our school board commits to uplifting Woodburn School District's current policy that is intended to eliminate “barriers that may prevent students from attending school.”  While symbolic to some people, passing Resolution No. 25-001, “Reaffirming Safe and Welcoming Schools for All”  is an important step to protect the students that you represent from discrimination, hate, and the increasing systemic violence.  We expect that you, as our elected school leaders, will take the right stance and pass this resolution.   In solidarity,

  • “End the 2025 Travel Ban on Sudanese (DV LOTTERY) winners ”
My name (g)  a Sudanese mother and one of the 2025 Diversity Visa (DV Lottery) winners. When I received the selection notice, it felt like a miracle — a door opening to safety, dignity, and a future for my family. We had been living through the horrors of war in Sudan. There was no U.S. embassy operating in our country, no safe path to stability. So we made the painful decision to leave everything behind — our home, our belongings, and the life we had — just to complete our immigration process in another country. We did everything right. We paid the fees. We prepared our documents. We followed every instruction with patience and hope. And then, without warning, a new travel ban came down — and with it, our hopes were destroyed. We are not criminals. We are not threats. We are people — ordinary people — who believed in the promise of America. We believed that if we followed the rules, we would be given a fair chance. Now, after everything we’ve been through, we are being turned away not because we did something wrong — but because of a blanket decision that doesn’t see our individual humanity. We are willing to provide every document needed to prove we are peaceful, law-abiding, and hopeful people. All we want is the chance to live in a safe country where we can rebuild our lives in peace. Please help share our story. Please help remind the world that behind every “travel ban” are real human beings who have already lost so much — and who are just asking for the right to dream. Sincerely, DV Case Number: [2025AS8xxx] Contact: [[email protected]]

  • The U.S. K-12 Public School Funding Restoration Act
We must provide emergency federal funding to our nations K-12 public school systems, while our economy and tax base recover. Failure to do so will allow our nations K-12 public school systems to suffer a degree of loss to critical programs and staff that if left unaddressed could take decades to correct/restore/rebuild..
