Smaller Artists Matter: Fair Pay for All
Music platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music make billions from distributing music, though many smaller artists earn mere fractions of the pay. Our petition advocates for smaller artists who deserve the benefits stemming from the pieces of art they create. Some of these changes could include increasing royalty rates and making sure record labels aren't taking unfair cuts of the artists' pay. All artists deserve the payout for the time and effort they spend in shaping a world of culture and arts.
Why is this important?
Music is a part of the majority of lives all over the world. Whether it's listening to big mainstream artists or small independent ones, they all shape how our society runs as a whole. While benefits of hard work are reaped by the record labels and artists, the cut of pay is unfair for the artists that are trying to make a living off of their music. If this problem persists, the world of music as we know it can become a very dull, 2 dimensional industry with little means of variety and diversity.
