Summer Heat Wave Solutions During Events at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre
I am writing to express my strong concern and offer a critical suggestion regarding the concert experience at your venue, particularly concerning the lawn seating area during Phoenix's severe summer heat waves.
As a frequent concert-goer, I appreciate the opportunity to enjoy live music and events at the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre. However, the extreme temperatures experienced in Phoenix during the summer months (regularly exceeding 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit with recent extremes exceeding 115 degrees) makes the unsheltered lawn area not only uncomfortable but hazardous for patrons health and safety.
On numerous occasions, I have witnessed and personally experienced the adverse effects of the prolonged sun exposure on the lawn during events, including:
- Dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and sun sickness resulting in attendees passing out and losing consciousness.
- Concert-goers seeking refuge in shaded areas not designed for seating, obstructing views for other attendees in addition to creating potential safety hazards for the venue, staff, and security.
- A diminished overall enjoyment of the event due to the relentless heat. Resulting in the conscious choice to not attend events at this venue during the summer.
While I understand that outdoor venues face unique challenges, the lack of any significant shade options in the lawn area during peak summer heat is a major oversight that negatively impacts the health, safety, and comfort of your patrons.
I strongly urge you to consider investing in and implementing temporary or permanent shade structures and cooling stations for the lawn seating area, especially for events scheduled during the summer months. This could include, but is not limited to:
- Extending the existing covered awning by strategically placed large retractable or permanent Shade Sails, Canopies or Awnings
- Planting heat resistant grass such as Bermuda, Zoysia, or St. Augustine grass
- Exploring innovative solutions for sun protection and hydration options open to all attendees such as
· Cooling Stations with mister fans
· Water Stations located throughout the lawn area along the back wall
· Availability to purchase cooling head wraps, bandanas, towels, sunscreen, and hydration powders (i.e. Liquid IV, Liquid Death, ect.)
Providing adequate shade and hydration options in addition to cooling stations would not only improve the comfort and safety of your guests but this would undoubtedly lead to greater customer satisfaction, potentially increased attendance for summer shows while decreasing the potential number of medical events that occur.

I am confident that in addressing these issues relating to Phoenix's extreme heat will significantly improve the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre experience for all attendees, myself included.
