Reform Redondo Beach Police
Reform and retrain the values, culture, policies and practices of Redondo Beach police department so that police can perform their duties with respect for democratic values, human rights and the rule of law. We need more veteran , experienced officers, and more minorities and women officers. We need especially to hold RBPD accountable for their inflated approaches to minor offenses, lack of empathy, Ill conduct and general demeanor.
Why is this important?
When small communities with little crime have a large and unexperienced police force, like Redondo Beach, minor offenses can be inflated at the hands of police officers, who may overcompensate for a petty or small offense, overreact with poor or power hungry judgement, look for offenses, and report an incident in a manner unwarranted. This can result in a ripple effect of unnecessary court dates, unnecessary fines, unnecessary offenses, financial stress and immense anxiety for a person and their family. It is important for the community of Redondo Beach to practice their civil liberties in peace and without fear, and to support officers who respect our human rights and the rule of law. In fact it’s imperative for RBPD to gain the trust and respect from whom they serve, as they expect from us. It is crucial that the Redondo Beach Police Department employ more experienced and veteran officers who can better understand a situation from a knowledgeable background and project an outcome that is fair and just, and more female and minority officers who can approach a call objectively and without bias to ensure that all community members regardless of race, class or incident get the help, guidance and security we need. The Redondo Beach community needs to see a police force that represents them. Reform and retraining RBPD will better help the sour reputation that RBPD already carries, and will alleviate the fear and stress of community members who live under this bullying authority. Most importantly it will allow people to feel comfortable to call the police and not find themselves in a dangerous situation or needing help and having an equal fear of dialing 911. It’s just a matter of time before RBPD bullies a member of your family, shows lack of empathy or lack of support for someone you love or put somebody you care for in a worse situation than before they called, affecting their job, money, future and livelihood over inflated and ill judged reporting.
