  • Save the Monroe Theater!
ESL Federal Credit Union- The Monroe Theater in Rochester, NY has languished in vacancy for almost two decades.  Not only does it tear a hole in a vibrant commercial district, it also could provide the facilities to promote neighborhood performance arts and provide for community needs. Our organization, Comedy Renovation Education and Empowerment Project, a 501(c)3 organization, is committed to helping communities establish and maintain Entertainment Districts, as the Monroe Corridor has traditionally been. Built in 1927, the Monroe Theater, located at 585 Monroe Avenue, started as a burlesque- but most Rochestarians know it as a movie theater.  In the 1940s and 1950s, it was the first-run theater in Rochester for Gone with the Wind, Oklahoma, and The Sound of Music.  In 1970, it became an adult theater, and was until 1996. The neighborhood around Monroe became a cultural district, the nexus of counterculture in Rochester, as well as the home of the hippies, the punk rockers, and the "gayborhood." After a final decade in business as a Show World, the theater has been vacant since 2008. In the interests of creating a comedy theater and a community center, Comedy Renovation Education and Empowerment Project is asking ESL Federal Credit Union to: 1)  Foreclose on the Theater's debt 2)  Donate the building and property to Comedy Renovation Education and Empowerment Project, a registered 501(c)3 centered in Rochester.

  • Charge a fee for plastic bags - Littleton
The average shopper uses over 500 single use shopping bags each year. That equates out to over 1-million single use shopping bags being used in America every minute. Less than 5% of the single use plastic bags ever get recycled. Since banning plastic bags China has eliminated some 40 billion bags, the equivalent of 11.7 million barrels of oil. Each year an estimated 1-million sea birds and over 100,000 marine mammals die from ingesting plastic. Single use plastic bags that end up in our landfills take over 500 years to decompose. We produce/consume more bags than we could ever recycle. Our only solution is to educate people to reduce usage of bags buying charging a 5 cent fee per bag. The fee can go back into a nonprofit for cleaning our ocean of plastics. Please show your support and sign our petition so we can show Littleton officials that you agree, we need to do something now and save our planet, and educate the American people so our children have a healthy place to live.

  • Get Veterans Care Now using Existing Medicare System
Get All Qualified Veterans immediately enrolled in the already-established Medicare System. Our need for specific hospitals for veterans is obsolete and inefficient. Turn all current Veteran Hospitals into regular hospitals. Veterans can then go to ANY doctor and ANY hospital of their choice. Funnel existing veteran hospital funds into the Medicare system to fund the change without effecting existing medicare patients. Give Veterans a medicare card with their Military I.D. on it in lieu of social security number. Simple, Clean, Ready, Proven System. Just Do it. Don't spend years trying to figure out a new system while veterans who protected our freedom suffer.
