Affirmative action for people over 50The protected categories for federal contractors include sex, race, veterans & Hispanic surname. Statistics show that people over 50 are spending more than twice as long between jobs as the youngest members of the job pool, with the amount of time between jobs going up steadily with age. There is an assumption that older people or more experienced people are more expensive, but this is not necessarily true. Older job applicants need protection. If being over 50 were added to the protected classes for federal contractors, this would be a first step. Discrimination against older people is routine. Many jobs advertise a maximum amount of experience that they will accept in applicants, like 3-5 years. Job advice websites regularly advise job seekers who are older to change the format of their resumes to hide their age. People are encouraged to die their hair to hide grey. These things are outrageous and blatant. Please add the category of over 50 to those that federal contractors are required to screen for in hiring.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anne Barschall

Tell Secretary of State Husted: Restore Ohio's early voting hoursDear Secretary of State Jon Husted, I am writing to demand that you extend early voting hours for all Ohioans to include weekends. It took the outrage of concerned people nationwide to get you to address the unjust system you previously endorsed — expanded early voting hours for rural and suburban Republican-leaning counties and a rigid 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekday schedule for polling sites in counties where Black communities are concentrated. Now, in your quest to restore “uniform hours” statewide, you’ve robbed every Ohioan of the opportunity to vote during weekends, a necessity for people with strict work schedules and others who look to their religious communities to help them get to the polls. As the Ohio Secretary of State, it’s your responsibility to ensure that every Ohioan has equal access to the vote. Your current position is an affront to all Americans who believe that voting is a right, not a privilege. I urge you to expand early voting hours to include weekends for all Ohioans now.7,302 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by ColorOfChange

Congress: Pass HR2990, The National Emergency Employment Defense Act.Unless control of the nation's monetary system is restored to the People through their government, as is mandated by the constitution, America will NEVER be free of debt. Kucinich's HR 2990 dismantles the Federal Reserve System, ends "fractional reserve" banking, and provides for funding the $2.2 trillion, the engineers tell us is needed over the next 5 years to repair our infrastructure; which solves the unemployment problem. Read the 14 page Act athttp://www.monetary.org . HR 2990 contains all the monetary reforms of our American Monetary Act, and HR 2990 creates 7 million jobs, for starters! Congressman Kucinich presently represents Ohio's 10th district, but with redistricting is now running to represent the 9th district. Please see http://kucinich.house.gov/ Congressman John Conyers of Detroit co sponsors HR 2990. The privately controlled, for-profit monetary system that now exists is based upon usury, which creates never ending debt that can NEVER be paid off.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Richard William Posner

Pension Reform for CongressCongress seems hell bent on reforming Social Security and medicare under the guise of what is fair for all Americans. How about cleaning their own house first and setting a good example? Let's update congressional pension policy to reflect the times we live in and be fair to all Americans. Here are the changes I propose: 1- You must serve at least full two terms in Congress to qualify for, and receive a pension 2- If you are found guilty of breaking any state or federal law, or abusing the faith and trust of your Congressional position, you automatically lose your pension. 3- If you resign your position due, in any part, to any type of publicized scandal, you lose your pension. 4- If you are sanctioned by a vote in Congress, even if you are allowed to stay in Congress, your pension is automatically reduced by half. 5- These new rules should apply, retroactively, to all persons currently receiving a congressional pension.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David Lee

We The PeopleIt is time that we the people had a voice in our government instead of giving the power to a house and senate that dont have our best interests at heart. On important issues that affect our well being as americans in a democracy we need to have the right to vote. A major issue is increasing the tax on the wealthy. Both democrats and republicans have expressed that this is what we need to do but our representatives in the house and senate are not listening. We cannot solve our economic problems by just cutting programs. This is absurd. Big corporations are getting tax breaks in this country while outsourcing jobs and making big profits overseas while there is no job creation here. Isn"t that the reason for the tax breaks. I am scared at what is happening to our country and the middle class in this country. This cannot go on or we are going to go down the tubes. General Electric made something like 14 billion dollars last year of which only 5 billion was made in the USA and they paid no taxes. Are we crazy?15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sheila Lazerine

Lead By ExampleIn enacting “austerity measures” to help get our country's budget debt load and economy back on track, members of Congress should lead by example. Beginning in January 1, 2012, members of Congress should be entitled to the same health care and pension options available to the average American, and nothing more: Social Security, Medicare, 401K pension plans and the range of health care plans options the rest of us have to choose from (and pay for). When they leave office, the government (that is, American taxpayers) will no longer cover their health care. Their pension plan will be a 401K that they will have to contribute to, with no guarantee of return. They will give up all the other lifetime perks they now enjoy at taxpayers' expense. When the national debt level (debt-to-GDP rate) drops below 40%, unemployment is less than 5%, Social Security and Medicare are solvent (without major cuts to benefits) and all Americans have access to quality health care and a reasonable pension, Congress may reconsider improving their benefits.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Beth Glascock
