  • Support next steps for farm worker immigration
Farm workers are the backbone of our nation. Their hard work all year long -- and especially their essential role and sacrifice of performing the skilled, grueling work that feeds this country during COVID19 -- earned them security and a path forward. I understand the quickest way to do this is to reintroduce and pass the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (FWMA). This bill was passed bipartisanly by the House last session, so has an opportunity for expedited passage through the House if reintroduced and passed in the House by March 12. I pledge to support the UFW's efforts to pass legislation to bring farm workers out of the shadows. Farm workers have earned this. Our domestic food supply relies on them.

  • MoveOn, Please Act on My Petitions
I just received an email from Amy Faulring telling me I should send an email to my past signers asking them to sign my current petitions. Funny, I composed that email more than 24 hours ago and it still hasn't been sent. Now, there are references that are out of date that I'd like to change, but can't. Nor can I find out when it might actually be sent. I have done several petitions with MoveOn now and have found it very helpful to send emails to signers over the weekend when people have the time to check their personal email accounts. Losing time this weekend is a big problem. Our issues don't take holidays. Neither do those of us who are unpaid volunteers working on the issues. Please let me revise my out of date email and then send it out promptly. And then please share the petition with your list.

  • Help Change MN State Statute 245c
The reason I am going the help change MN State Statue 245C 15,16 and 24 is because it penalizes people like me whom are not bad people, but people whom had made bad choices and have paid the debt to society as prescribed, but now there is a new law (on the books since 2005) that says even if you done your time you can not be trusted to do certain jobs, that in itself is not the problem it is that this rule had no wiggle room (gary area) for redemption, and we are left to forever to be second class citizen, with the rights to a better tomorrow, because of my past Read the post on the pages and they spells it out, or go to this site:https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bin/getpub.php?pubtype=STAT_CHAP&year=2006§ion=245C#stat.245C.15.0 I just want to present my case that I may be the same person, but judge me on whom I am today...

  • Save Our Hamakua Heritage Ditch
We are not denying the State the use of the Lower Hamakua Ditch irrigation system. Rather, we are objecting to the installation of piping the entire length of the waterway, and seek to achieve a settlement that would allow the heritage ditch to remain open. We landowners want to work out a compromise to ensure the security of the flow of water in this first five miles section while maintaining this section as an open vessel system. We ask for your support to pursue an agreement with the State to preserve a portion of the unique cultural asset – would you kindly sign your name as your show of support? Lawsuits are being brought by the State to take the 24 mile corridor of land underlying the entire Lower Hamakua Ditch waterway. The State intends to put a big pipe in the cut stone irrigation vessel and then completely bury the entire length of the waterway. If this happens, we will no longer have the enjoyment and access to any portion of this precious historic asset.

  • Let them Filibuster
President Obama's jobs bill would create thousands of jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. Republicans have blocked the bill by threatening to filibuster. Their reason is because people who make $1 million or more a year would have to pay a tax increase of 0.7%. Their motivation is only to let their rich constituents pocket even more money while everyone else is struggling, and to hurt President Obama's change of re-election. I say that they have to put their money where their mouth is. A filibuster is an unending debate. When Senators do filibuster, they often resort to reading the funny pages and pointless acts because THERE'S NOTHING MORE TO DEBATE. There's no way to justify holding up this bill that could put thousands of Americans back to work. Everyone remembers when Strom Thurmond filibustered for 24 hours. What no one remembers is that when he was done, the Civil Rights bill was passed, and we're ALL better off for it.

  • Congressional Reform Act of 2012
Congressional Reform Act of 2012 as detailed by Warren Buffett 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the. American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time? THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

  • congress: wake up!
Twelve members of Congress will soon take on the crucial job of rearranging our country’s finances. They’ve been instructed to devise a plan that reduces the 10-year deficit by at least $1.5 trillion. It’s vital, however, that they achieve far more than that. Americans are rapidly losing faith in the ability of Congress to deal with our country’s fiscal problems. Only action that is immediate, real and very substantial will prevent that doubt from morphing into hopelessness. That feeling can create its own reality. Job one for the 12 is to pare down some future promises that even a rich America can’t fulfill. Big money must be saved here. The 12 should then turn to the issue of revenues. I would leave rates for 99.7 percent of taxpayers unchanged and continue the current 2-percentage-point reduction in the employee contribution to the payroll tax. This cut helps the poor and the middle class, who need every break they can get. But for those making more than $1 million — there were 236,883 such households in 2009 — I would raise rates immediately on taxable income in excess of $1 million, including, of course, dividends and capital gains. And for those who make $10 million or more — there were 8,274 in 2009 — I would suggest an additional increase in rate. My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress. It’s time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice. From the NYTimes & Warren E. Buffett, chairman and chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway.

  • Congressional Reform Act of 2012
Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling: "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. 1. No Tenure / No Pension.
