  • Dear Mr. Trump
Dear Mr. Trump, On November 8, you were elected by the electoral college system to be the next president of the United States. You did not win the popular vote. If you had a mandate, it was to break the gridlock that has prevented our government from solving our problems. You do not have a mandate to ignore the views of the majority of Americans. The majority of Americans believe: 1. in equal rights and opportunities for all Americans 2. in doing whatever we can to limit the devastating consequences of climate change 3. in a thoughtful and reasoned approach to immigration reform 4. in building strong alliances to protect us from global threats 5. in addressing income inequality 6. in access to reasonable healthcare for all Americans 7. in thoughtful gun safety measures 8. in educating our children to be successful in today's global economy Please hear us. Prove that you are the uniter you claim to be – and carry out the will of the majority of the people. Choose your advisors carefully - and listen to the facts, and dissenting opinions before you act Thank you.

  • Tell the EPA: Don't Let Billionaire Matty Moroun Keep Polluting the Detroit River
We were disturbed to learn during the EPA-led hearing on the settlement with billionaire Matty Moroun's Crown Enterprises that the tearing down of buildings at the former McLouth Steel site was prioritized over toxic chemicals running off into the river, including PCBs and heavy metals. If the EPA is going to settle with Matty Moroun in the public's name, we demand that pollution of the Detroit River be treated as the emergency that it is. Specifically, we demand that action is taken much sooner than the 18 months required to produce a "stormwater management report" currently cited in the settlement agreement in Appendix D, Section 5, Part (b). 18 months is an inappropriate amount of time to wait until actions are taken to stop this pollution, and inadequately addresses the risks to downriver residents that this pollution poses. Work on that report required in the agreement should begin immediately, taking no longer than six months, and there should be action taken ideally before the report is done, or if necessary right after, to stop toxic chemicals from going into the Detroit River that many of us rely on for our livelihood and well-being.

  • Kansas Legislators: Support the Common Core State Standards in Kansas
Stop the Kansas Legislature from reversing the decision to fund and implement the Common Core State Standards for Math and English/Language Arts. Why must this legislation be stopped? 1. It would set back development of math and ELA instruction 3 years. 2. It would cost tax payers millions of dollars to re-create standards that already exist and are quality targets to get Kansas students college and career ready by 12th grade. 3. It would invalidate the work of Kansas educators to raise the bar for Kansas students. 4. It would potentially disqualify Kansas from receiving some federal funding. 5. It would potentially reverse the current waiver from NCLB requirements that the Kansas State Department of Education received. 6. It would over-ride the decision making power of the Kansas State Board of Education to make decisions regarding the education of Kansas students Please sign this petition to show your dissatisfaction with the actions of the Kansas Legislature to disallow the funding and implementation of the Common Core State Standards which is both financially and educationally irresponsible.

  • Make Government Accountable Now
Congress should immediately enact the following at the will of the people. 1. Sequester their own salaries since it is their fault the sequester exists. 2. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. 3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 8. Congress will no longer add "pork" to any bill. One item, one bill. No exceptions.,

  • Equality wrt Vet dioxin exposure presumption
We, the undersigned, petition the US Senate, US Congress and the President of the United States to enact legislation that makes ALL veterans have equal presumption of exposure to dioxins while in the service of the United States at any location or unit. We feel that ALL veterans MUST be treated equally with respect to dioxin exposure by the US government and Department of Veterans' Affairs. NOTE: Veterans must also still prove they have a recognized condition that may be caused by dioxin exposure during or after service to get DVA benefits. Currently, only veterans of the Vietnam Conflict are afforded this in a limited presumption, “Boots on Ground” legislation, if they were in the Republic of Vietnam (served in the Republic of Vietnam between 1/9/62 and 5/7/75), per the Department of Veterans' Affairs. In fact, any current end date for any location would be invalid, as dioxins stay active for much longer than the time since the 1962 admitted RVN Agent Orange / dioxin start date, current end date is the end date for RVN service, per the DVA.

  • Let Food Dyes Die
Food coloring is in food to appeal to our, right? Why then in pet food? It has gotten to be commonplace to add a little color to our food, and far too dangerous. Sign this petition to indicate that you will read labels for the entire month of May 2013 and purchase only items that do NOT contain Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 17, Red 40, Blue 1, Blue 2. You have to make sure you read those labels though! Some items, like brightly colored candies, are obvious culprits. But many pickles, dairy items, pet food, even medicines contain these bad-guys. They'll only stop putting it in if we stop buying it. VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS and put an end to this madness. KNOWN effects of food coloring: allergies, asthma, cancer, chromosomal damage, heart issues, hives, hyperactivity, low blood pressure, migraines and upset stomach. Of course, once you're used to it, hopefully you'll be off yellows, reds and blues for more than just May!
