The Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program ended between Christmas and New Year's for 1.3 million jobless Americans. The EUC should continue until the economy picks up and jobs are available again. There are still eight to ten jobless people for every job in the U.S. This issue impacts all their families too and is an economic stimulus as all this money goes right back into the economy

Homeless Youth Alliance (HYA) will close our Drop-In Centers doors at the end of Christmas Day. Stop the closing of HYA, and the reduction of essential services to keep homeless youth in San Francisco safe.

A threatening sign was recently posted near Honey Springs Rd and Lyons Valley Rd. We ask the County of San Diego Supervisors, Sheriff Bill Gore, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, and the Department of Public Works to determine if the threatening speech on the sign is, in fact, protected under the First Amendment, and to erect a "Bikes May Use Full Lane" sign at this intersection.

Due to repeated actions against schools involving guns, we ask that the legislative and executive branches of our government act immediately to impose the following restrictions. Our expectation is that our government representatives will act in support of the majority of the population, and not just their immediate base or paid lobbyists. 1) IMPOSE AN IMMEDIATE BAN ON THE SALE OF ASSAULT STYLE WEAPONS; No citizen needs a military grade weapon for defense, hunting or sportsmanship. 2) THOROUGH BACKGROUND CHECKS WITH NO LOOPHOLES; Background checks to include mental health, history of drug or alcohol abuse, any criminal record, gun show and private purchases, an environment of domestic abuse, and a 30-day waiting period. 3) IMPOSE A BAN ON LARGE CAPACITY MAGAZINES (MORE THAN 10 ROUNDS) AND BUMP STOCKS; Nobody needs these devices for safety or sporting purposes. 4) ESTABLISH A MINIMUM AGE FOR GUN OWNERSHIP OF 21, WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS; e.g. security force training, an officially sponsored athletic event, etc. 5.) ESTABLISH A LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF FIREARMS THAT CAN BE PURCHASED WITHIN A SPECIFIED PERIOD OF TIME, AND A LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF FIREARMS ALLOWED PER HOUSEHOLD.

The drug war around the globe hurts mostly poor people. Some struggling people use drugs to cope with their conditions, and the illicit drug trade (made profitable and brutal by its illegality and lack of regulation) is one of the only ways to make a living in very poor regions of the world. The departments that "fight" it like the DEA, FBI, police forces, militaries, etc. are only so invested in keeping drugs illegal so they can profit from their confiscation, court fees, and from squeezing poor people dry. 5 million people die from tobacco every year. It is legal, but almost unregulated, and that is why so many people die. The drug war is waged nearly around the globe, but we only have deaths on all sides to show for it. I believe we should legalize and regulate all drugs, and treat addiction as a health problem. Prison only perpetuates cycles of violence and abuse. Release those convicted of victimless crimes from prison. Don't tell people what to do and instead give everyone the opportunity and ability to survive. Then, they will do the right thing. The drug war is a war on people, not drugs.

I'd like a Constitutional amendment which reads as follows: The term of a member in the House of Representatives should be increased to Three (3) years and all members of Congress should serve no more than two (2) terms.The following restrictions to their compensation and benefits shall apply: (1) After leaving Congress,they should receive no further salary or stipend. (2)Congress can no longer vote themselves a pay increase; but would be entitled to the lesser of 3% or the CPI (3) All retirement funds of current or former members of Congress should be placed in the Social Security "Trust" Fund.They should be entitled to the same benefits as the rest of America. Should they want to pay into a retirement fund to supplement Social Security, they should be permitted to do so to the extent that we the people are allowed. (4) All prior monetary contracts that they legislated for themselves should be null and void. (5) All healthcare plans paid by the U.S.Treasury,that they and their families are now or in the future entitled to will cease to exist. However,they will be entitled to receive any benefits under the "Affordable Healthcare Act"or Medicare. (6)All future laws must affect all Americans equally including their elected officials.

The undersigned residents, merchants, commuters, employees, students, and visitors who regularly travel on Masonic Avenue in San Francisco, California disapprove of the raised bicycle track project on Masonic. This project is fundamentally flawed. We request that elected officials, the SF Municipal Transportation Agency, the SF County Transportation Authority and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission: 1. Rescind and withdraw their approval and support of the current plan. 2. Adopt an alternate plan that maintains traffic flow on this major arterial street. 3. Retain curbside parking on Masonic. 4. Install pedestrian safety improvements. 5. Establish a better, alternate bicycle route on nearby streets. We are concerned about the current plan because: • It will congest traffic by permanently removing travel lanes during rush hour, leaving only two lanes in each direction. • Only a single lane will be moving whenever Muni buses make stops. • Disabled people, seniors, residents, visitors, churchgoers, employees, students and businesses will suffer hardship due to the loss of at least 167 curbside parking spaces. • The increased motor vehicle congestion and longer searches for parking will increase pollution. • Safety will be reduced, not increased.

With the wars coming to an end, the VA has experienced a backlog in Mental Health Services. We the signers of this petition believe fixing the Mental Health Services at the VA should be a priority. Fixing the Mental Health Services at the VA in six easy steps: 1. Double the number of counselors which will increase access to therapy in general. 2. Hire licensed behavior analysts to increase access to specialized PTSD related exposure therapies; behavioral activation coaches for depression; and Community Reinforcement for Addictions. 3. Allow psychologists to prescribe medication. Psychologists prescribe in the military and allowing them to prescribe in the VA will increase access to medication. 4. Triple the number of disability evaluations conducted by contracting sources. In this time of crisis, veterans wait time to determine their disability can be drastically decreased by decreasing the evaluation bottleneck. More private psychologists and psychiatrists doing the evaluations will drop the backlog. 5. Modernize and build at least four new VA hospitals in the next three years. 6. Double the number of peer to peer programs and hold workshops for family members on Community Reinforcement and Family Training approach to help them to guide their love-ones into a successful return adjustment.
