  • Save the City Park rides!
The citizens of Iowa City would like to petition the City of Iowa City to either save the City Park rides and move them to higher ground to protect them from future flood waters, or purchase new rides to continue the tradition of the City Park rides. We have all grown up with these rides, and are sad to see them go. We would like to see our children be able to grow up with these rides as well, and hopefully several generations after that, as these rides are a piece of Iowa City history.

  • Fix Rustica Oaks' Pool Properly
The current "fix" for the pool cracks is not sufficient. I'm concerned that next year, when the pool is no longer under warranty, we will end up with cracks in the same areas, and then it will be our financial problem to deal with. In addition, it is not practical to expect everyone to wear water shoes in the pool because of the poor quality of the fix. This pool is only 1 year old. It is unacceptable to have an essentially new pool so badly damaged that it is unsafe to not wear water shoes...in a pool. Let's fix it right while it is still under warranty!!

  • Build temporary housing for the homeless in Irvine.
Hundreds of homeless citizens in Irvine are being forced out of their home city off the streets. Granted, we do not want a large homeless population (or any at all). But rather than forcefully moving them to Santa Ana, where they will just be moved back to Irvine, we should make temporary housing that offers full shelter and facilities and job training and rehab. We can build these using extra tax dollars being wasted on building tens of new parks in places where they are not needed.

  • Senators: Don't Send Trump's "Humble Regulator" to FERC
Trump's FERC nominee James Danly calls his style that of a "humble regulator", but it really means he'd take a hands-off approach to the most important issue of our time - the climate crisis. “That hands-off approach to performing greenhouse gas analysis has been repeatedly criticized by Commissioners Cheryl LaFleur [since retired] and Richard Glick, both Democrats," reported E&E News. Senators, it's up to you to block his approval by speaking out during his hearing and voting NO on his confirmation.

  • ABC - Fire Meghan McCain from The View
Meghan McCain traffics in fearmongering lies that have no basis in reality. She said the Green New Deal would ban cows and cars, which isn't remotely true and analogous to the "death panel" smears about Obamacare. Similarly, she called a cartoonist anti-Semitic even though the cartoonist is Jewish man expressing his disgust at her shameless bad faith exploitation of his identity by recently making comments, as a white Christian, about anti-Semitism that made many Jews uncomfortable.

  • Credit Cards and Banks: Don't Penalize Furloughed Federal Employees!
The Trump Tax plan dropped the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%, a windfall for banks, credit card companies, and other corporations. These same companies stand to profit from higher interest rates, penalties and fees that will accrue as late or missing payments from furloughed federal workers multiply. Late payment forgiveness and charging 0% interest on any new charges since the government shut down in December is the absolute least these corporations could offer to these customers. Help Federal workers now!

  • Keep River Bend Open Until the Expressway is Actually Built
River Bend Golf Links, opened in 1950, is being forced to close June 15th, 2018. The St. Johns Water Management District, who manages the property, is willing to let the course continue to operate until the new road is actually built, which is several years away. The FDOT is not allowing the course to operate, even though the road will not be built for several years and only a small part of the property will be used. This will affect thousands of people and the people deserve to maintain use of a community asset until is absolutely necessary to build the road.

  • Cory Gardner-stop accepting NRA funds
According to the New York Times, you have accepted $3,879, 064 in funds from the NRA. Shame on you for the hypocrisy of accepting these funds while at the same time expressing condolences to families who have tragically suffered at the hands of mass gun violence. As the senator of a state that has experienced the Columbine and Aurora shootings you should know better. Support legitimate background checks nation wide (and use our State as an example), as well as a ban on assault weapons. These are weapons of war and not meant for civilian society.

  • Vote To Make Puerto Rico a Free Sovereign Nation
Puerto Rico has the ability to sustain itself with the help and guidance of America. If Puerto Rico becomes incorporated as a state into the U.S. the bail out would be a temporary fix, sinking Puerto Rico into a higher debt with the U.S., adding additional stress on the national debt. If Puerto Rico is assisted into a transition of a free sovereign nation they can create their own economy, and establish agreements that while under U.S. administration were impossible and bring a new wave of jobs and progressive potential to a free and newly independent nation.

  • Force Gov. Pence to Disclose What PR Firm Did for Indiana
Governor Pence and Indiana's Economic Development Agency refuse to say what work a New York-based public relations firm did for the state before officials canceled their contract to assess the damage from the national outcry over the religious objections law. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation announced that it would pay Porter Novelli $365,000 for work already completed since being hired in May, but refused requests for reports or recommendations furnished by the PR firm. The taxpayers of Indiana have a right to know.
