#FREE AT - NO MORE BARS!

PETITION TO EXONERATE ANDRE T. MITCHELL-MANN (#FreeAT)

To: The Office of the Governor of New York, The New York State Board of Parole, The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, and the New York State Clemency Board

We, the undersigned, call for the exoneration of Andre T. Mitchell-Mann, a man wrongfully convicted at the age of nineteen and sentenced for a crime he did not commit. Now known to the nation as AT, he is a father, leader, and founder of one of America’s most respected violence prevention organizations—Man Up! Inc.

At just 18 years old, AT was arrested for second-degree murder—his very first contact with the criminal legal system. He was later convicted of manslaughter, despite a trial riddled with inconsistencies and a lack of credible evidence. What followed was not only incarceration, but a transformation that began while still inside the prison walls.

AT became a model inmate, mentoring others and creating a path for fellow incarcerated individuals to succeed after release. Since returning home, he has worked relentlessly to protect youth, reduce gun violence, and lead structural reform through his work in New York City and beyond. He co-founded NYC’s Crisis Management System (CMS), served as an advisor to city leadership, and was even invited five times as an expert on gun violence prevention to the United States White House.

Despite over 30 years of service, zero re-offenses, and national impact, AT remains burdened by the stigma of a conviction that should have never occurred.

We demand that the State of New York:

  1. Reopen and review AT’s case through a formal Innocence Review Process or Conviction Integrity Unit.
  2. Acknowledge the systemic failures that led to his wrongful conviction.
  3. Exonerate Andre T. Mitchell-Mann and clear his name so that he can fully continue his service to our communities without legal shadow.
  4. Honor his work by recognizing that formerly incarcerated individuals deserve recognition when they lead with excellence, accountability, and purpose.
Andre T. Mitchell-Mann has done more than redeem himself—he has reshaped public safety across New York City. It is unjust that he continues to live under the legal and moral burden of a conviction that does not reflect the truth.

Justice delayed is still injustice.
It’s time to #FreeAT.

Why is this important?

Support the exoneration of a wrongfully convicted man who has spent the last 40 years under restrictions, limited access, and barriers.
