Governor Shapiro, You May Be AI Ready. We're Not.
A frequent talking point of yours these days is that Pennsylvania Is AI Ready.
What does that mean?
The fossil fuel industry, the Building Trades, some tech billionaires, and our state government may be AI Ready, but the people of Pennsylvania are not.
We’re not ready for our taps to run dry.
We’re not ready for bigger electric bills.
We’re not ready for data centers the size of several football fields.
We’re not ready for noise pollution.
We’re not ready for light pollution.
We’re not ready for more air pollution.
We’re not ready for our water to be polluted.
We’re not ready for the health impacts of living with data centers’ waste stream.
We’re not ready for more natural gas power plants.
We’re not ready for more pipelines.
We’re not ready for more transmission lines.
We’re not ready for another generation of drilling and fracking.
We’re not ready for lost property values.
We’re not ready for increased greenhouse gas emissions.
We’re not ready for AI to take our jobs.
We’re not ready for the mess that will be left to us and future generations to clean up when this boom goes bust
We’re not ready for our government to make short-sighted business decisions that put humanity at risk.
Why is this important?
In July, Governor Shapiro participated in Senator Dave McCormick's PA Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh to accept $92 billion in investments in data center and energy projects President Trump announced there. He was already boasting a $20 billion deal he struck on his own with Amazon for two data centers.
Now he's crowing that Pennsylvania Is AI Ready.
We're not. We're asking you to sign this petition to let him know.
