To the City of Des Plaines/Cook County,
We, the undersigned residents and concerned individuals, humbly present this petition to address a critical safety issue on Touhy Avenue. Our community has endured tragic accidents and the loss of loved ones due to the perilous conditions on this road, particularly the intersection of Touhy Avenue and the Mobile Home Park, which also serves as a bus stop for local children.
We urge the City of Des Plaines to take immediate action to implement a raised median/bollards along Touhy Avenue. This median/bollards would serve as a necessary safety measure to prevent illegal left turns, crossing of solid lines, and dangerous shortcuts, which have resulted in countless accidents and fatalities. Incorporating improved traffic regulations at the intersection of Touhy Avenue and the Mobile Home Park, is essential to ensuring the safety of our kids.
The purpose of this petition is to protect our community and prevent further loss of life. We implore the City to consider this essential safety improvement, which has the potential to save lives and spare other families from the pain we have endured.
We, the undersigned, request that the City of Des Plaines/Cook County takes the following actions:
1. Conduct a thorough safety assessment of Touhy Avenue.
2. Collaborate with traffic safety experts to design and install a raised median/bollards.
3. Implement strict enforcement measures to deter illegal turns and lane violations.
4. Increase public awareness of the new safety measures and their importance.
