Repeal gun manufacturer immunity to lawsuits“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence The children of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT were denied all of these. They were hideously shot multiple times and died soaked in their blood and the blood of their teachers. We the undersigned of this petition believe that their families deserve a chance at some justice for this matter by repealing the gun manufacturer immunity to lawsuits. We seek that the law be replaced with a law that would lessen the chances of future incidents from happening: (1) create a consumer protection board to review gun advertisements for manufacturers and the National Rifle Association to ensure that they are not marketing to criminal (as in Merrill v. Navega) and people with mental illness; (2) laws and money to conduct adequate background checks to ensure that those who are criminal or have severe mental illness cannot purchase a weapon; (3) banning assault weapons (4) 7.8 billion added to the budget for a grant program to put officers in the school 125,000 public schools armed with nonlethal weapons; (5) create a system for training gun safety and grant licenses necessary for people who own more than a rifle or shot gun (license level grants access to type of weapon a person can own); (6) increase the MH budget by 25% to offset the cuts many states have imposed; (7) reduce the ratio of counselors to students from 1:600 to 1:300 and (8) a banning clips that hold more than ten shots. American’s deserve the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Defend free speech at La Trobe UniThree La Trobe students are under threat of expulsion from the university for their participation in a campaign to stop major cuts to their department. Midway through 2012 La Trobe University announced that they were cutting around 60% of Humanities and Social Science subjects and sacking 25% of faculty staff. Hundreds of students and staff met, demonstrated and occupied over the course of second semester to protest the gutting of their department in a campaign of civil disobedience. Such opposition to the cuts was met with hostility from the University administration. The University is going out of their way to silence students. They employed many extra security guards - on a demonstration on Open Day - one of these security guards physically assaulted a student, as shown on national television. Students were followed around campus, filmed, photographed and threatened by the University administration. Staff were told they were not allowed to participate in any demonstrations under threat of dismissal. A number of students are being charged with serious offenses. One female student is accused of 'breaking the ribs' of one security guard. The students unequivocally reject the charges. The 'misconduct' hearings are closed, not subject to natural justice and the students are denied any right to legal representation. We the undersigned believe that these accusations are pure inventions of the university designed to silence dissent. Students have every right to engage in peaceful civil disobedience against outrageous attacks on our education. This is a kangaroo court. If the university seriously wants to accuse students of assault let them take it to an actual court of justice. At least there you could rely on a serious investigation and some level of public scrutiny. Help those in need of better housing opportunitiesNovember 25, 2015 The Honorable Paul Ryan United States House of Representatives 1011 Longworth House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515-3508 Dear California Representatives, Working two jobs and still unable to pay the rent. This is the plight thousands of hard working citizens in California are currently facing. As rent prices go through the roof, students, single-parent families and even middle-income families are finding it more and more difficult to cover rent and housing costs. Although low-income levels have already been established to aide in providing housing opportunities, research has shown that those levels are inadequate and need to be expanded. Over 45% of Californians are renters and far too many are paying as much as 50% of their income in rent. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the average Californian would have to be making a minimum of $20.80 an hour to afford a one-bedroom apartment at Fair Market Value. At a time when thousands of hard-working families find themselves in crisis because of spiraling rents, we urge you, our leaders, to consider raising the low-income housing salary limits in California so more individuals and families can be eligible to receive affordable housing opportunities. Dodge needs to step up!I am an owner of a Dodge Durango that we purchased less than 2 years ago. At 5 in the morning I was on my way to the hospital for my 1 year old to get tubes in her when my Durango made a huge clanking sound and lost all power from the engine. I was in town and thankfully was only going 25 miles an hour, or it could have been worse. My husband is a mechanic and diagnosed it, as the Hemi engine throwing two rods into the pistons causing the engine to stop. Meaning the engine was trashed. We did some research on the internet and found that there are over a hundred thousand similar problems with these engines. I decided to call Dodge and see what they could do since I have a loan on this vehicle and now cannot drive it. They denied my request for help stating that it was a "owners neglect" problem and there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with someone above her and she transferred me to a supervisor who said the same thing. I called again and submitted another request and got denied again. I explained that we did upkeep and preventative maintenance on it as schedule and it was our family vehicle and we did not "hot-rod" it. I also explained that there were hundreds of thousands of people who have had this same problem, but Dodge did not want to hear it. Like I said before, I have a loan on this vehicle that I am still paying for, I cannot afford to put a new engine in it, without some help! Start with the Pennsylvania Crimes Code Section 25, Section 2502, in which “Murder of criminal code, in which “Killing by means of poison, or by lying in wait, or by any other kind of willful, deliberate and premeditated killing, is considered “Murder of the third degree.” And that is a crime in any civilized society. Slow poisoning or quick: The only difference is that it will be impossible for you to prove the link between frackers and your kid’s cancer when it develops five or seven or twelve years from now, and the frackers and politicians who colluded with them will be off the hook. HELP TO REDUCE THE SUICIDE RATE AMOUNG MILITARY MEMBERSSuicide is a major public health issue and among the top ten causes of death in the United States. Unfortunately, for more than a decade, the suicide rate has been rising in the general U.S. population and especially among veterans, men and women who risked their lives for the country. In 2018, 6,435 veterans and 40,075 nonveteran adults died by suicide. But because there are many more nonveterans in the population, the rate of suicide among veterans was 32.0 per 100,000, compared with 17.2 per 100,000 for nonveterans. Not only are we seeing an increase in our veteran suicide rate, but the number of deaths by suicide among military service members increased alarmingly in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the Defense Department's latest quarterly report. The military recorded 156 deaths by suicide among all services, including active-duty, National Guard and Reserve troops, from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 last year. That is a 25% increase from the 125 such deaths that occurred in the last quarter of calendar year 2019. There are many non profits that work to combat this increase, in South Florida an LLC is willing to donate a property (Veterans Card Sound Fish Camp) to non profit organizations to be used as a site for Piscatorial Therapy and an area that can be very conducive for meditation., but due to political roadblocks this cannot be accomplished. We need your help to receive a Bay Bottom Lease for use of this valuable resource. We all know the calming effects of water and the scenic views of the Florida Keys and Everglades.
