"Support Equality: Protect LGBT+ Students and Gender Expression in Our Schools"
Subject: Urgent Call for Inclusive Policies Protecting LGBT+ Youth and Gender Expression in Our Schools
Dear Members of the School Board,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing discrimination faced by LGBT+ students and those who express their gender in non-traditional ways, such as boys who wish to wear nail polish, dye their hair, or engage in other forms of self-expression. It is imperative that our school system upholds a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
Despite progress in awareness, many students still report bullying, harassment, and exclusion based on their identity or how they choose to present themselves. These negative experiences can have long-lasting effects on students’ mental health, academic performance, and sense of belonging within our educational community.
I urge the school board to:
- Review and strengthen anti-discrimination and anti-bullying policies to explicitly protect LGBT+ students and those expressing themselves outside of traditional gender norms.
- Provide diversity and sensitivity training for staff and students to foster a more inclusive and understanding school culture.
- Ensure that dress codes and student conduct policies do not unfairly target or restrict students based on gender expression, such as wearing nail polish or hair dye.
- Establish safe spaces and support resources for LGBT+ youth at all school levels.
By taking these steps, our schools can lead by example and create a welcoming atmosphere where all students feel valued for who they are. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter and for your commitment to ensuring equality and respect in our educational system.
Sincerely,
[Gio Arroyo]

Why is this important?
Others should join this campaign for change because creating an inclusive and accepting school environment benefits everyone—not just LGBT+ students or those who express themselves differently. When all students feel safe and respected, it leads to better mental health, increased academic achievement, and a stronger sense of community. Discrimination and exclusion harm the entire school culture by fostering fear, division, and missed opportunities for understanding.
By standing up for fairness and dignity, supporters can help ensure that schools are places where every child has the opportunity to thrive without fear of bullying or judgment. This campaign is about affirming basic human rights and modeling kindness, empathy, and respect for future generations. Joining together amplifies our voices and demonstrates a united commitment to building a better, more equitable educational environment for all.
