Children, Hunger, Inoculations

We have heard that close to 30 million kids in the U.S. are going hungry, as the meals they had relied on, from schools, has petered out. This is a major crisis. In addition to this there is predicted to be a potential outbreak of measles and whooping cough as parents are not vaccinating their kids, for a variety of reasons.

One of the issues in feeding kids and families is that the states have run out of money. But here we are talking about multiple emergencies and another potential health crisis if nothing is done, both starvation and rampant infection.

It seems we should have learned something about prevention from this pandemic. Address the problem early rather than wait for it to explode.

I propose that if a child goes to the doctor to get vaccinated, they can get a day’s, a week’s, worth of food. It is an incentive to get kids protected from one emergency and hopefully help them keep safe in another emergency, food deprivation. Yes, this reeks of bribery and coercion, but is “an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure"?
