Make Election Day a Federal Holiday
Given the need for more citizens to have the opportunity to vote and the controversy of honoring Columbus as the founder of America, we ask that Columbus Day be moved to election day (the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November) and renamed Founders Day. Making election day a federal holiday is the best way to celebrate the discovery of America and honor those responsible for the rise of America and her democracy.
Why is this important?
The United States has a very low voter turnout compared to other countries. It's important that as many citizens as possible be given the opportunity to participate in our democracy by voting. Making election day a federal holiday will give significantly more people the opportunity to vote. Since it will replace Columbus Day, it won't generate any additional costs.
