• Support Bernie Sanders Running as an Independent
Due to the undemocratic actions taken by Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the Democratic National Committee and because we believe the two party system, corporations, special interest groups, and the wealthy and powerful are corrupting our Democracy, I started this petition requesting that Bernie Sanders run as an Independent in the 2016 Presidential Election. For millions of us, neither party represents our ideals as fully as Senator Bernie Sanders does. This is why he must run as an Independent so we too are represented next year. Otherwise, many of us will be unable to vote for President in next years election.

  • Deny the DNC narrative
At what point do we, as political creatures, say enough is enough? How far does the DNC have to go before we start putting pressure on the DNC, not to play fair, but to obey the rules that they them selves instituted. I wrote the following canned reply weeks ago after receiving one too many of what I'd like to refer to as Hillary's chain (e)mail: "As a general supporter of the Democratic Party I have been systematically removing my email address from lists that support Hillary Clinton in her presidential bid. I am dissatisfied with the DNC in general for its lack of foresight and its insistence on backing Hillary Clinton. I will not be voting for Hillary because I disagree with her policy stances; they are consistently moving targets. And whether it be her association as a Barry Goldwater republican or her chumminess with Wall Street or her rapid sea changes depending on current polling, I can not bring myself to TRUST Hillary R. Clinton. Please feel free to remove me from any list serve that supports her candidacy. Steve Archer II USMC 1999-2004 OIF/OEF veteran Small business owner African American Black male Citizen" Was that enough? No. So I'm starting a petition wherein I am declaring that I will only write in Bernie Sanders name at the top of the ticket and walk away from the rest of the election. While the Republican Party may claim to fear Donald Trump, he is good for business. The DNC has no respect or concern for the voting public. They believe that we will pinch our nose and vote for Hillary Clinton. #bernieorbust is a wonderful slogan but there's no pressure, there's no leverage, there's no passion. Bernie Sanders started the fire? Perhaps. I believe it would be unconscionable to allow this spark of a political revolution to die in the back rooms of the DNC. Again, my impassioned plea, is that you call your politicians and let them know that you will be riding in Bernie Sanders and leaving the rest of the ticket blank if the DNC is not immediately re-organized and access is restored to the Bernie Sanders campaign. Just to be clear reorganizing the DNC means that chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Debbie Wasserman Schultz should step down or be removed from her undeserved position.

Digital security, accountability. My information could be among the data that was leaked and which may be maintained without the proper security controls. With the tough security controls required for population data in other industries, it is a sensible request to ask the Justice Department to review how these public servants have mishandled population data in the course of these events.

  • Bernie's Voter Access, or Bust
We are launching this position because we believe the actions of the DNC are a blight on and an affront to Democracy itself. We should be working to mobilize and turning out voters. We should not be working to act like Republicans in 2002 who jammed phone lines in an attempt to stifle voter turnout.

  • Debbie Wasserman Schultz: Give the voter file back to Bernie Sanders' campaign
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who heads the Democratic National Committee, undoubtedly made the call to suspend Bernie Sanders' access to the DNC's 50-state voter file in the wake of a software glitch that a Sanders staffer had previously reported on multiple occasions. With just 6 weeks to go before the Iowa caucuses and less than 2 months before the New Hampshire primary, the Sanders campaign needs this voter file more than ever to reach a maximum number of voters. Withholding access to this critical information at such a critical time for the campaign is equivalent to sabotage.

  • Condemn Israel's shooting of Rehab Nazzal, Canadian photographer-researcher
Honourable Stéphane Dion and Ambassador Vivian Bercovici, On December 11, Rehab Nazzal, a Canadian citizen and a doctoral candidate at the University of Western Ontario's Visual Arts department, was shot in the leg while in Bethlehem. She is in the West Bank conducting research for her doctoral thesis and teaching at a local university. At the exact time of the shooting she was documenting a "skunk" weapon, a tank used by the Israeli military to spray a foul-smelling mist as a form of crowd control. Nazzal states that she "was alone, with no clashes, no stone throwers, absolutely no one around me, and yet I was intentionally shot by a sniper. This was not an accident." Examination at the hospital indicated that a bullet had entered and exited Nazzal's leg. The bullet was identified as being .22 calibre which, according to the Israeli human rights organization B'tselem, is a type of ammunition that is prohibited for live fire against unarmed civilians. In direct contravention of international law, the Israeli military consistently uses live ammunition against unarmed protesters and even non-protesters (such as Nazzal), the targeting of photojournalists, attacking of ambulances, executing youth in the streets and leaving the injured to bleed to death while preventing paramedics from reaching them, and Israeli soldiers disguised as Palestinians to infiltrate and even kill suspected protesters. These illegal practices cannot be allowed to continue without comment in the strongest possible terms. The new Liberal government has indicated a new era for Canada's foreign policy. The recent mandate letter from Prime Minister Trudeau to the Honourable Stéphane Dion stated that : "As Minister of Foreign Affairs, your overarching goal will be to restore constructive Canadian leadership in the world and to advance Canada's interests. This renewed leadership will serve our security and economic interests, but it will also support the deeply held Canadian desire to make a real and valuable contribution to a more peaceful and prosperous world." In the spirit of your mandate , we expect Canada to voice its strong opposition to criminal or illegal acts by any state, particularly when those acts target innocent civilians, like Canadian Rehab Nazzal. We call on you, as the Canadian Foreign Minister and as the Canadian Ambassador to Israel, to publicly condemn Israel's shooting of a Canadian citizen and to demand that Israel stop using prohibited weapons against unarmed civilians and cease violence targeting paramedics, journalists and photojournalists.

  • Reconsider the Williamson Museum Old South (Civil War) Ball
We, the Undersigned, are writing to you today because we are concerned about the message that the Director of the Williamson Museum is sending to our community and county with a planned Old South Ball -- A Civil War Soirée -- on January 30, 2016. We are a County and City that did not actually support the inclusion of Texas into the Confederate Union. To quote the Texas State Historical Society: Unionist sentiment was strong in the county, and a resolution denouncing secession was adopted by a Texas Constitutional Union party meeting in Round Rock in 1860. One of the county's delegates to the secession convention, Thomas Proctor Hughes, was among the eight who voted against the ordinance of secession. When the ordinance was referred to a statewide election, Williamson County was one of 19 counties to oppose it, rejecting secession by 480 votes to 349. We also have a long history of unfortunate incidents in the County of racially motivated harassment and killings. Though Mr. Moody did successfully prosecute the KKK for an incident involving a white man, the Klan did not disappear. Where they were a public organization before Mr. Moody, they became a wink and nod of an underground organization after Mr. Moody's successful prosecution. Further, a grand Southern Ball, with uniformed soldiers and ladies in grand antebellum dresses, does not in any way accurately reflect the period or time in Williamson County. Back in the 1860s a party would more likely have been a small dance in day clothes at someone's house. What is being created is a slaver's plantation ball with all the finery and trimmings and glory of the Deep South. Do we really want to aggrandize that, let alone distort local history? This is not an event that represents a living history of our community or county. There are many fine times and events that could be honored, times that do not smack of white privilege and one of the darkest times in American history. Perhaps we should glorify our resistance to Secession and slavery instead of celebrating the senseless death of hundreds of thousands of men, the destruction of the American Union, and the enslavement, oppression and murder of humans owned by wealthy Southern landowners. Hate should not be part of anyone's heritage. We should reconsider a grand Old South Ball. It sends the wrong message to the community and the world in times that are still troubled by racial strife and violence. Perhaps we could create an event that celebrates our unity and that respects our diversity, an event that would bring together all of Georgetown and Williamson County.

  • Gov. Snyder: Protect Michigan elections, Veto SB 13
UPDATE 1/19/16: A couple weeks ago, Governor Snyder signed SB 13 into law (and also SB 571, which allows more dark money into Michigan elections). SB 13 removed straight ticket voting, so there will be much longer lines at crowded polling places on major elections. His comment during the bill signing was "To alleviate concerns that this change could lead to longer wait times for voters, I'm asking the Legislature to enact secured no-reason absentee voting." Since the Senate specifically refused a companion bill that would have expanded absentee voting, and forced the House to go along with it in a late night of sausage-making in Lansing, this seems unlikely (to put it mildly). Another black eye for Michigan. - This idea has been proposed before in Michigan and rejected by a vote of the people. But this time, the legislature has added an appropriation so it can't be overturned at the ballot box. It's opposed by local clerks and election officials from around the state, because they recognize -- both Democrats and Republicans -- that this will hurt Michigan voters. The legislature didn't listen, and now Governor Snyder is our last chance. The bill passed the Senate and the House late Wednesday night, and is on its way to Governor Snyder. He has not said yet whether he will veto it or sign it into law. Tell Snyder we want solutions that will help people to vote (such as no reason absentee, early voting, same day registration), NOT disenfranchise Michigan voters. • Free Waleed, Jailed Saudi Human Rights Lawyer
Human rights attorney and advocate Waleed Abu al-Khair - a Nobel Peace Prize nominee - worked for the release of other Saudi human rights advocates from prison, including Raif Badawi, the blogger jailed and sentenced to 1,000 lashes. In retaliation for this advocacy, Saudi Arabia’s government sentenced Waleed to 15 years in jail. He has been beaten, deprived of sleep and moved from jail to jail. Amnesty International, calling Waleed a prisoner of conscience suffering purely for exercising his right to freedom of expression, has demanded that the Saudi government drop all charges against Waleed and free him from his unjust imprisonment. [1] Urge President Obama and Congress to press for Waleed's release by signing our petition. References: 1. http://www.write.amnestyusa.org/case/waleed/
