  • Impeach Antonin Scalia
Scalia insulted African Americans by implying they are not qualified to attend many of our institutions of higher learning. It is unfortunate that Scalia was allowed to attend our Institutions of higher learning because he obviously did not reach the level of intellect, sophistication and morals required. The first Italian American to be appointed to the Supreme Court, appointed by Reagan who lacked the intellect, sophistication and morals required for the reverence and respect our court deserves. America is suffering the consequence. America and African Americans deserve better! Impeach Scalia.

  • Stop Corporate Welfare Tax Breaks for Big Developers in Providence
I'm a resident of Providence, and I'm worried about what's happening to my city. The City always says it doesn't have the money when it comes to helping ordinary people, but they're happy to hand out ample cash to big developers.

  • Increase Funding for Schools
The children of the United States are the future of our country. There are many challenges faced in the K-12 grades for these children and the main challenge is funding. Many of these schools have poor funding and poor student performance, with the future promising more cuts for education. The States’ budgets are providing less funding for kindergarten through 12th grade than they did six years ago.[1] Our schools rely heavily on this funding and these budget constraints are detrimental to our children's education. Instead of putting money into our next generation’s education, funds are being spent elsewhere and instead being used to balance deficits. Our children are paying for the mistakes that others have made. Many schools all over the country are facing difficult budget cuts, losing valuable teachers along the way. Even though in 2012, the Obama administration began to offer more flexibility for spending under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), children are still struggling due to the funding. There needs to be a new law that helps to improve the quality of instruction and help to increase outcomes for all students. We urge members of Congress to support our efforts of helping our children with advances in funding for education. The signatures attached to this letter express the support for our issue. We organized this letter petition through the course we are currently attending. The course is Race and Ethnic Relations and is being taught by Professor Paul Lopez. We are urging you to hear our concerns. Sincerely, Erin Hagerty Brittany Oliphint Sheena Sandoval Amanda Pokriots Christina Tooley Bibliography 1. Leachman, M. (2014, May 20). • Don't let Donald Trump become U.S. President!
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.” This poem was written by Pastor Martin Niemoller about the Nazis in World War II. Adolph Hitler harangued against the Jews for years before he took control of Germany. He repeated his lies about Jewish "power" until people them and let his Nazi stormtroopers murder six million. In Donald Trump I see frightening similarities. Trump is spreading lies about Mexicans and undocumented aliens in the United States. In his increasingly hysterical comments, a thread of truth may be twisted and exaggerated. If you listen, there’s not much substance to his rants, mainly attempts to get people both afraid of his targets and to hate them. Hitler tested his poison gas on disabled persons. Trump pokes fun of the disabilities of reporter Serge Kovaleski. He is also aiming his barbs at Muslims, with threats to register to keep track of them. Would he next require all Muslims in America to wear yellow patches? Think about what Pastor Niemoller said. If we don’t stand up for the disabled, the Mexicans and undocumented, and Muslims in our midst, who’s next? I worry about whom he will go after next. Don’t you? What if he were President?

  • Stop the discriminatory language in HR 158 by signing the Petition
Definition of DISCRIMINATION for Kids: the practice of unfairly treating a person or group differently from other people or groups of people. In my experience kids have no trouble understanding this definition, but it seems our representatives sometimes struggle with believing and upholding it. This is exactly what the Visa Waiver Program “Improvement” Act of 2015, known as H.R 158, will do if we do not take immediate action. It will subject millions of law abiding American citizens to be treated with suspicion and be subjected to hardships in exercising their basic rights such as traveling abroad. Debate and media exposure about H.R 158 has been very limited. Under the shadow of the Paris Climate Summit , the issue has not captured enough attention and has not had solid public debates . The bill, as early as next week, could become the law. We have to act now. I am asking the MoveOn members to read and carefully consider the negative impact of H.R 158 on millions of our fellow citizens. Then, contact your senators and let them know that such thoughtless measures do not improve the security of our country, but further divide our society. In case H.R 158 comes to pass next week, a new chapter in violation of civil liberties of many of our fellow citizens will open, which subsequently will require many struggles to rectify. • Pledge for We the People
Congress is holding our government hostage to fund unnecessary riders on bills that should pass on their own merit. Pledge of We the People We the People declare that we will no longer be subject to corporate and government terrorism. The United States, as We the People, Do not negotiate with terrorists. We Demand clean legislative bills with few riders, We demand that the needs of the many outweigh the needs or wants of the Few, We demand a constitutional ammendment creating transparency in government posting all proposed bills to the public for public review with a link to send congress a letter of opinion, We demand that a website be established in order to post bills in simple English along with All riders, and that the votes by every representative for or against be posted, with an option to message our representatives and rate them on their performance according to the people based on individual profiles with 1 vote per representative per bill; and We demand to be represented by the people we elect to office. If these demands are too difficult for you to understand we understand that we will decide to take further action and begin recall ballots, impeachment hearings and plain removal from office for those not willing to work for the common good. We have lived off the scraps long enough; we demand that our representatives work for their constituents, not just to line their pockets, careers, and for unbridled Greed. As in the Declaration of independence ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, and WE THE PEOPLE HAVE CERTAIN INALIENABLE RIGHTS, THE RIGHT TO LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Your constant battle for the greed and wealth has blinded you of these facts and we demand them back. We the People, as a united front, can and will return this country to its former glory. We are dedicated and will continue to unite under this banner and declare, NO MORE! Congress will no longer hold us hostage for its political backers and the greed of the wealthy. We will no longer be the silent masses, the quiet majority. It is time WE stand up and take back our government from corporate and Wealth Terrorism. We have a revolutionary movement started and will continue to grow in numbers eventually ousting all politicians that no longer represent the people they serve. You have forgotten We the People are your boss and we will be represented. Don't think your military will save you this time as you have cut them out of jobs when they return home, cut their benefits, forgotten them and leave them homeless after they serve with their lives. You deem anyone with little money as expendable. We the People includes our military brothers and sisters. All Races, places of origin, Creeds, and sexual orientation are included in We the people we are fighting for our rights and freedom from oppression just as our founding fathers did. • Pass Medicaid expansion in Nebraska in 2016
Everyone has an inherent right to medical care. Expanding Medicaid in Nebraska will provide 77,000 Nebraskans who currently have no medical insurance with medical insurance. It will save 67-212 lives per year. It will ensure that rural hospitals don't close because they have too much bad debt from charity cases (some rural hospitals have closed in states that haven't yet expanded Medicaid). Expanding Medicaid will create jobs and that will result in more income taxes and sales taxes paid. This increase in revenue will pay for Nebraska's share of the expansion (10% in 2020 and on). Expanding Medicaid will mean fewer businesses will be fined for not providing their workers with health insurance. Fewer people will declare bankruptcy, which will also be good for businesses. It makes sense on all fronts.
