Douglas County, CO has a state-mandated, tax-payer-funded Master Plan that is supposed to be in effect until 2035. The County Commissioners have overthrown the will of the people to approve at least (2) dense developments by rezoning. These decisions were outside of the basic guidelines of the Master Plan and were against the will of the citizens who voiced their opposition to the developments at public hearings. Douglas County is now preparing to rezone agricultural land on Hilltop Road for more dense development. The heavy development in Douglas County is congesting our communities, destroying Colorado's natural beauty and wildlife, and is depleting the limited-resource aquifers. The depletion of the aquifers will eventually leave the land scarred and worthless within approximately 100 years. This is being done so a few developers can make large profits without regard for land and water preservation and the local citizens. Our County Commissioners are paid to be public servants. When they overthrow the will of the people and the Master Plan, they become dictators. Please protect citizens' rights to steward and preserve our local communities by signing this petition. In December 2014 a bill was put forth to sell 2,400 acres of Apache Holy Land to an Australian/British company that intends to mine the property. This action has detrimental effects for both the Apache people and the environment. We are asking people to sign this petition to reverse this action.

Symbols of hate have no place in our military. The Confederate flag is not a symbol of southern pride but rather a symbol of rebellion and racism. Over 600,000 Soldiers dead or wounded and 1 President died defending the United States of America against the Confederate Army, and the U.S. military is still affected by this racist symbol today. It's time to put that symbol of rebellion and racism behind us and move toward healing and a better United States of America! I will leave you with two quotes that explain the intent and legacy of the Confederacy and its symbols. William Tappan Thompson, creator of the Confederate Flag is quoted in the 1872 book, "Our Flag: Origin and Progress" by George Preble, " As a people we are fighting to maintain the heavenly ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause...Such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young confederacy, and sustained by the brave hearts and strong arms of the south, it would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations, and be hailed by the civilized wolrd as THE WHITE MAN’S FLAG." If this is not convincing to you, consider what the Vice President of the Confederate government, Alexander Stephens said in the Cornerstone Address, specifically addressing America’s belief that all men are created equal: " Its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world based on the great physical, moral, and philosophical truth." If you know these beliefs do not belong in today's US military sign the petition.

I'm embarrassed and saddened by the gun violence and the lack of regulation of arms in the United States.

Congress is about to pass a government funding bill chock full of ideological riders and special interest favors that makes it even easier for wealthy donors to dominate our democracy. It’s the result of backroom negotiations between lobbyists and lawmakers, using the upcoming must-pass budget bill as a political football, with the American people cut out of the equation. We have until December 11 -- when the federal government’s current funding expires -- to get these riders out of the current budget bill and stop any more last-minute shenanigans. Tell Congress to pass a clean bill to fund the government -- without riders that pay back donors or weaken our campaign finance rules.

We originally posted this petition after San Bernardino. Thankfully, some Democratic Members of Congress have taken up our message after the Orlando massacre. “God isn’t fixing this.” We need action to stop the senseless gun violence in this country. It’s not often that we find ourselves in agreement with the tabloid New York Daily News, but today’s front page perfectly expresses our thoughts about the GOP reaction to gun violence. The print headline said simply, “God isn’t fixing this.” The online headline said “GOP presidential candidates offer prayers — not solutions on gun control — after San Bernardino massacre.” These headlines are responding to the statements by GOP leaders after yesterday’s mass shootings in San Bernadino. Every Republican presidential candidate was either silent or offered only prayers and platitudes—no recognition that they have a responsibility to act to stop the uniquely American problem of gun violence. “Your ‘thoughts’ should be about steps to take to stop this carnage,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn) posted on Twitter. “Your ‘prayers’ should be for forgiveness if you do nothing — again.” If you agree that we need more than prayers, please send this message to Congress.

The students and parents of the Antelope High School Band and Guard program do not support the change of ideas and direction of the program nor the removal of Sonora Mello as the director.

Jason Faber is an honest, hardworking and deserving man. He has transformed himself since he was first incarcerated and there is no sense in keeping him in prison. Our prisons are dysfunctional and dangerous because of overcrowding, shortage of staff and a total loss of mission by the department of Corrections. We can start turning this around by releasing parole eligible old law prisoners like Jason, who have no business being in prisons anymore. Jason Faber is needed out here. He is a fine man.
