Planned Parenthood is one of the nation's leading providers of high-quality, affordable health care for women and men. Not one cent of federal funds go toward abortions (Hyde Amendment), which represent about 3% of total services provided.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is guilty of dereliction of her duty as DNC Chair to get more Democrats elected throughout the country, especially when it comes to special elections like the one in her home state of Florida and the recall election of Scott Walker in Wisconsin. She does not support President Barack Obama when it comes to Cuba and the Iran Nuclear deal.

As a MoveOn.org member, national members called my attention to starting a specific petition to Louisiana representatives, which would be more pivotal from a local constituent getting other residents involved with the matter. Louisiana already has a failing grade for its work with women's healthcare, and we need to reconcile this now by signing as Louisiana residents in support of Planned Parenthood and its excellent efforts.

The democratic process in America has been chipped at piecemeal by outside forces since the birth of the nation; today, it is being attacked from within by the very leaders entrusted to protect it. As a constituency, we grow from engaging, open and vibrant debates. “We the people” have that in our blood. Open debates let us whittle down candidates until we get close to one that mirrors our attitudes and beliefs as Democrats. The current DNC chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, evidently does not feel she is part of that process. I have lived in urban neighborhoods where, without Planned Parenthood, many women would have no affordable access to medical tests, contraception, and accurate sexual health information. American women, especially those in underserved populations, need the important health services and information provided by Planned Parenthood. Already, the federal government does NOT provide funds for Planned Parenthood's abortion services, which are PRIVATELY funded and constitute no more than 3% of the organization's total combined budget.

Republican leaders are threatening to shut down the entire federal government for the second time in three years unless Congress cuts funding for Planned Parenthood. This is unacceptable! Planned Parenthood is a lifeline for millions of women, providing contraception, cancer screenings and basic preventive health care to women across our state and country.

I am disturbed and disgusted that my money is funding this barbaric fetish and I am taking action to stop it immediately.

On Tuesday, September 1, the Champaign City Council is expected to vote [1] on an agreement ("consent decree") with the Clinton landfill, which lies over the Mahomet aquifer. The consent decree does some good things, but appears to allow the landfill to accept poisonous “non-hazardous special wastes” [2] - including coal ash, fracking brines, and mine wastes - without any public hearing on the matter. The agreement has only recently been available for public review. (See last several pages of this link [3] to Urbana's council packet.) This agreement should be subject to more careful public review and debate before the governments of Champaign and Urbana commit to it. Please urge Champaign and Urbana officials to defer final action on the proposed consent decree until concerns about disposal of “non-hazardous special wastes” have been publicly addressed by signing our petition. I'm one of millions of women who have benefited from Planned Parenthood's health and reproductive services. I'm sure you know someone who has as well. This organization is a critical part of healthcare for low-income men and women who quite literally can't afford its defunding.

My granddaughter has been asking, where's Nana and Papa? I had taken care of her 3 to 4 times a week for two years. We were very close. For years, I had "loaned" my daughter money when she called me in a panic because she couldn't pay her rent. It added up to several thousand dollars. She has never offered to pay any of it back. My daughter and her husband have a habit of over-spending and not paying their debts to the point of having no credit, getting evicted and being sued by collection agencies. I told them that I would no longer enable their poor spending habits by continuing to give them more money, because it wasn't helping them. I offered them help on forming a budget and getting better jobs. My daughter quit the minimum wage job she had and went on state assistance. They abruptly removed my granddaughter from my life, and now a grandson has been born. He is 9 months old. I've never met him, even though we live in the same area. By the way, my daughter has a BA degree. I have asked her many times to talk to me and work this out. She flatly refuses. I worry that my granddaughter thinks that I've abandoned her or that I stopped loving her. My heart is broken. This could be remedied with some regular, court-ordered visitation.
