• Texas Board of Education: Stop censorship of climate science education!
A decision is brewing in Texas that could affect students across America. Texas Board of Education member David Bradley is trying to stop students from learning the facts about climate change. Bradley is pressuring fellow Board members to approve new social studies textbooks for K-12 students that deny the scientific consensus on climate change. Since Texas is the nation’s second largest buyer of textbooks, books produced for the state are often sold around the country. Therefore, if the Texas Board of Education approves scientifically inaccurate textbooks, students nationwide will be negatively impacted. Bradley said recently, "Whether global warming is a myth or whether it's actually happening, that's very much up for debate. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise.” The broad scientific community in the US and abroad links the burning of fossil fuels to climate change with the same level of certainty with which it links smoking to lung cancer. Communities across the country, including Texas, are currently confronting climate impacts including flash floods, extreme drought and heat waves. Students have a right to be taught accurate information about the causes and consequences of climate change, so they can help develop solutions to the biggest global challenge their generation will face. Tell the Texas Board of Education to refuse to consider any textbooks for adoption that deny or censor the scientific consensus on human caused climate change!

  • End the Deliberately Intimidating Display of Firearms in Public Domain
BOTH responsible gun owners and non-gun owners demand action. The open carrying of firearms on the streets and in places like restaurants, grocery stores, malls, playgrounds, parks and neighborhoods intimidates the public, wastes law enforcement resources, and increases the risk that someone will be injured or killed from the accidental or intentional use of firearms. Open carry advocates create a potentially very dangerous situation. When law enforcement is called to a "man with a gun" call, they are responding to a situation about which they have few details other than that one or more people are present at a location and are armed. Consequently, the law enforcement response is one of "hypervigilant urgency" in order to protect the public from an armed threat. When ELECTED OFFICIALS do not take action to prevent gun violence, Americans will take matters into their own hands with their VOTES. Let these political candidates know that they will NOT get your VOTE unless they address gun violence and implement change. BOTH responsible gun owners and non-gun owners demand action. All 50 states now have some form of Concealed Carry; open carry is no longer a necessary option. The carrying of unloaded rifles has absolutely no defensive utility other than to be used for the express purpose of intimidation. Simply because one has the "right" to do something, does not make it the right thing to do.

  • Snacks for Cardinal Ridge
The students and teachers at Cardinal Ridge Elementary School should be allowed to have a snack during the school day. A hungry child loses interest in the subject matter they are studying. In addition to the educational benefits, snacking meets a necessary physical need for the students. Since children have smaller stomachs than adults, healthy snacking between meals provides nutrients to help them meet their daily nutritional needs. The USDA reports that healthy snacks can satisfy nutrient gaps and provide up to 1/4 of a child’s daily energy needs.

  • City of Rochester: No Cell Tower on Meaderboro Road
My husband and I live next to the Quaker and Kimball cemeteries. We moved to Meaderboro Road because of its natural beauty and we don't feel that a cell phone tower is in keeping with the feel of our neighborhood. The Meaderboro Road area is one of the most beautiful parts of Rochester, and we feel it should be kept that way. Keep incompatible industrial uses out of this area.

  • Congress: Stop the gridlock, and get back to work.
For too long Congress has gridlocked and filibustered its way to the brink of international economic disaster, to the detriment of the electorate without any consequence for its actions. We (your constituents) are called upon to bear the brunt of this behavior; to work harder, longer, for less pay, surrounded by crumbling infrastructure, declining opportunities and ever growing expenses for fewer and fewer services, AND pay our taxes (for your salaries) without recourse. Therefore, until you fulfill your mandated responsibilities, we will freeze your pay scale and suspend the 70% employer contribution subsidy of your FEHBP policies to help you better understand our predicament. Our hope is that it will remind you of why you were elected to your offices and what you were sent there to do.

  • Outrageous Water Bill's In Baltimore City
I have been personally affected by this situation for a number of years . One time ,I had a water bill of $1,500.00 . In order to attempt to correct the problem I had my front lawn dug up and replaced the pipes leading from the meter to my home. even thought the bill became manageable after that , it has remained high. The nightmare has returned , I received a bill totaling $2,020.39 . due by 06/09/2014 .I was able to get an adjustment to that bill after having a plumber come in and redo all old gavanized pipes and replace them on the inside of my home . The City inspected the meter on 5/29/2014 and found no leak's. The adjusted bill was $278.43. that was paid in June 2014. My current bill is $799.90 , I requested another adjustment on Friday 9/19/2014 , the most recent feed back is I have to have a plumber come out because leak's were found on the property . This situation is serious because my home can be sold for a delinquent water bill. Solution ; Replace the current dysfunctional system with the new Smart Meter's now instead of year's down the road .
