Restore the Flow of Fresh Water to the San Joaquin River: Save our Salmon and our San Francisco B...California's unique San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary – including the rivers that feed it and the species that depend on it – is in a state of crisis because too much of its water is diverted. Incredibly, most water diverters in the Bay’s watershed are not required to allow water to flow to the Bay to protect water quality, or the fish and wildlife species and natural environments that make this ecosystem so unique. Many water users do not use water nearly as efficiently or wisely as they should. As a result, Central California's once abundant salmon runs and other fishes are in imminent danger of extinction, and the Bay-Delta estuary ecosystem that supports these and other economically critical species is collapsing. This fall and early next year, the California State Water Resources Control Board will decide whether to require that more water make it from the San Joaquin River basin into the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary. Currently, two-thirds of the San Joaquin’s water is diverted upstream of the Delta, on average – in some years close to 90% of this river’s water is diverted upstream. Increasing flows from the San Joaquin River to the Bay-Delta estuary is a critical first step towards restoring the balance between the needs of California’s fish and wildlife, the many businesses that depend on healthy fisheries and rivers, and the other uses of water. Based on the best available science, the State Water Board’s own findings show that 60% of the San Joaquin River basin's natural flow in the winter and spring is needed to fully restore the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary and the fish populations of the San Joaquin River and its tributaries. But, those who divert most of this river's water, including wealthy industrial agriculture interests, are lobbying to maintain the unacceptable status quo – or worse! Now is the time to remind the Board to do what its own science shows is needed to restore the San Joaquin River and the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary.587 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Friends of the River

BURNING MOUTH SYNDROMEBURNING MOUTH SYNDROME is a disorder that has gotten little publicity so little research has been done. This is a debilitating disorder and we need big research companies and pharmaceutical companies to do research and come up with a cure for us. So far we know it's from the firing of nerves in the tongue. This causes debilitating pain in bms members. It feels like a hot coal is placed on your tongue. People have lost or had to quit their jobs. I've had this disorder for 15 yrs and was bedridden until I was given an addictive drug. More problems but that's what it comes down to. We need better meds!! We need more publicity and for bms to come out into the open. Bms is so debilitating that many have said they can't go on. They see no future...PLEASE HELP US!!825 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by MaryC. Larson

Marinela and her children shouldn't be torn from their home!Marinela was just trying to do the right thing by paying her traffic ticket, but instead she was led away in handcuffs and detained by immigration authorities. The news has only gotten worse for Marinela, because ICE Field Director David W. DeWeese has cruelly denied her stay of removal. Now this mom of three U.S. citizen children will be deported at the end of the month, even though she has no criminal record. Why is ICE making Marinela a priority for deportation? Marinela qualifies for the type of deportation relief President Obama had, until recently, been considering. But now that the President has said he's going to delay acting because he's too worried about elections, Marinela's entire family hangs in the balance. Marinela fled her native El Salvador during a violent civil war over ten years ago, and she's become a valued member of her Ohio community. But if she's deported, her entire family will be devastated. Marinela will be forced to uproot her U.S. citizen kids and move back to a country they've never known. We shouldn't punish our own just because of Washington D.C's political games! Marinela and her kids deserve a chance to stay home where they belong. Please join us in telling ICE Field Director David W. DeWeese to stop Marinela's deportation immediately. Her entire family is depending on us!2,243 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Gabe Ortiz

Tell Congress and President Obama: We demand debate before military interventionIn an address to the nation on Wednesday evening, President Obama announced that the U.S. will escalate its military campaign against ISIS (also known as ISIL, or the so-called Islamic State), to include potential military air strikes in Syria as well as Iraq. The U.S. will also deploy nearly 500 additional military advisers to Iraq. The President said that the U.S. objective is to "degrade" and ultimately "destroy" ISIS. Earlier this week, the White House indicated that such a strategy could take upwards of three years to execute, and would include air strikes in Syria. Moving forward with this sort of military action is a huge decision -- one that will have ongoing ramifications for years to come. Because of the broad, extended, and open-ended nature of the proposed expansion of U.S. military force in the Middle East, it is critical that before the United States moves forward with any action, Congress must take time to debate the issue. We have already seen the terrible consequences of rushing into military intervention, and it is critical that the United States not repeat that mistake again.360 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Jo Comerford

Return bench to the citizens of IlwacoThe bench in question was always used day in and day out by people and customers of a tax paying business in Ilwaco. The city clearly has bigger things they should focus on than "maintaining" a bench made out of milk gallons, but we don't need to get into that.38 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mike Berani

Save California's Mail Processing PlantsThe U.S. Postal Service is a vital part of everyday life in communities all across the country. Any reduction in service standards and processing centers creates delays in mail delivery. Veterans, the elderly and businesses that rely on prompt efficient service for medications, and payments will be negatively impacted. Geauga Park District Activities Need Saving. The Geauga park district is a great resource for families of Geauga county and surrounding areas to enjoy year round. Families can and do often gather and spend the majority of a day in one of our beautiful parks grilling and eating, socializing and playing. Thanks to the recent addition of tether ball, sand volleyball, horseshoes, bocce ball, soccer/multi-purpose fields, and user friendly additions enjoying a day in the Geauga park district promotes a sense eudaimonia more now than ever and we the undersigned would like to see this trend continue. Geauga park district consisting of 19 developed areas and 9600 acres should be user friendly to all people of all ages and abilities all year round.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Matt Barber

Provide San Antonio Firefighters With 100% Line-Of-Duty BenefitsThis year, 2014, there are 13 San Antonio Fire Fighters battling Cancer, and all 13 have been denied Line of Duty Benefits which are mandated by State Law. Studies prove that Fire Fighters, because of the hazards they face on the job daily, are more likely to develop Cancer than the general population. The research says that exposure to toxic fumes and the extreme heat from fires causes Cancer among Fire Fighters. In fact, the studies say that Fire Fighters are 1.3 times more likely to develop Brain Cancer than the general population; 1.5 times more likely to get Blood Cancer; and over 2 times more likely to contract Testicular Cancer. When it comes to healthcare, State Law says that our brave Fire Fighters should be covered through Line of Duty Benefits or Workers Compensation. Unfortunately, our City Manager has denied coverage for all 13 Fire Fighters that are suffering from Cancer this year. However, in a recent news article, she said that Fire Fighters are covered 100%. That simply is NOT TRUE. This year, 13 Fire Fighters are battling Cancer have been denied Line of Duty Benefits, despite the State law. Last year, we lost 3 San Antonio Fire Fighters to Cancer…AND ALL THREE WERE DENIED WORKERS COMPENSATION. Most of you know someone who has had Cancer and you know the emotional and financial toll that it can have on a person and his or her family. Copays and medical services cost thousands and thousands of dollars and would devastate just about any family. That is what 13 Fire Fighters and their families in San Antonio are facing today. Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to save our citizens from fires, medical and other emergencies. They do not like to be called heroes, but to many citizens whose lives they save they are. Please ask the City Manager to follow the State law and to keep her word. Fire Fighters have a job that is highly physical and that puts their lives at risk, not only from becoming a victim of the fire, but from the exposure to toxic fumes, burning chemicals and other Cancer-causing agents that they breathe and that penetrate their skin. How do you think the families and friends of the 13 San Antonio Firefighters battling Cancer this year feel about this issue? What about the families and friends of the Firefighters we lost last year? It is unacceptable. We must stand together and ask the City Manager to follow the State law and keep her word to cover Fire Fighters 100% on healthcare. You can help by signing the petition. And when you see a Fire Fighter, please thank them for their service to our community. Yes, they voluntarily become Fire Fighters to protect our citizens, just like the young men and women who serve our country in the military volunteer and risk their lives to protect us. PLEASE SUPPORT FIREFIGHTERS FIGHTING CANCER! To learn more and read the studies, go to www.SAFFCancer.org. Thank you for your Support.2,306 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association
