• Iowa City West High: Donate to Clean wind energy
Pollution is a growing problem, and wind energy among other clean energies is an important step to try and stop the massive pollution. Increasing funding for wind research and energy will reduce reliance upon dangerous fossil fuels, help to keep a clean earth for future generations, and increase West High School recognition around the world.

  • Congress: It's time for a moral and just minimum wage!
As people of faith, we firmly believe that the dignity of work and the security of the family are nonnegotiable moral values. We believe that every job must enable those who work to support a family. Far too many of our neighbors and loved ones perform grueling and important jobs but are paid so little that they must turn to charity and government assistance to make ends meet. After a long shift cleaning buildings, no mother should have to wait in line at a food pantry just to provide for her children. No farm worker who toils all day should lack a roof over his head at night. We respect the dignity of our neighbors who toil under the yoke of today's unjust minimum wage, and we call on our elected leaders to ease their burden by making the minimum wage a family wage.

  • Fix why so many living with a mental illness go untreated
I believe Rep. Murphy's Bill H.R. 3717 - The Helping Families In Mental Health Crisis Act, ensuring Psychiatric Care for Those in Need of Help the Most, has the fix for all problems found in the Oversight and Investigation report. I have experienced the problems sighted with my consumer peers, working for a Community Mental Health Center and as a field organizer for NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness. Driven by evidenced based care, the items to fix are many: Empower parents and caregivers by revising the HIPAA law, Addresses the shortage of inpatient psychiatric beds by changing the cap of beds per unit from 16 to 32, Gives alternatives to institutionalization, Reforms the Department of Justice, Reforms the accountability of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) by instituting a new oversight position reporting to Congress. Goals include: Reaching underserved and rural populations, Stabilizing beyond the ER, Advances critical medical research, Provides high quality community behavioral health services, Increasing awareness in the behavioral health needs of children and teens, Integrate primary and behavioral care, Increasing physician volunteerism.

  • STOP ANIMAL ABUSE AT WOLCOTT FARMS
CONTACT GEORGE PHIFER THE ASSISTANT DEPUTY DIRECTOR AT: 1 (800) 477-2757 TELL HIM WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS OUTRAGE! Hello, I am reporting animal abuse at one of our Metro Parks. It has come to my attention that Wolcott Farms in Ray, MI is mistreating their animals. For starters, they just recently sent 5 cows, that they KNEW were pregnant, to auction for the slaughter house. I'm not sure if you know much about sheep, but you are not supposed to breed sheep until they are at least 2 years of age. Wolcott farm took it upon themselves to breed 1 year olds anyways. They also decided to stop feeding them grain over the winter, and as a result of it, most of the sheep had miscarriages or gave birth to stillborn. The sheep that did make it to full term and gave birth, refuse to take care of their offspring because of how malnourished they are. Every sheep in that barn has lice, and are not being treated for it. Mind you, this is a public barn where children and adults are allowed to walk inside of these barns to see, and touch these animals. This not only is a case of animal cruelty, but it is effecting the general public as well. Their chickens have mites, their rabbits are dying because they do not have signs posted to NOT feed the animals grass because they have it fertilized. Not only is that dangerous to the animals, but to the children as well. They're touching fertilized grass without even knowing it, and then their parents are handing them snacks, or even just being a normal kid and putting their hands in their mouth. No one will listen to me! I have called EVERYWHERE. I have contacted the police, local humane societies, PETA, and even local news stations. NO ONE wants to listen to me! PLEASE, if you can help in any way, please please do! I have exhausted all of my options! HELP US BY SIGNING THIS PETITION!

  • Fund Our Streets, Not Wall Street!
A new and growing coalition called "Fix LA" just released an unprecedented report that reveals that the CIty of Los Angeles is giving away more than $200 million in fees annually (not including any principal or interest) to big banks and financial institutions. Our neighborhoods are being neglected because of relentless budget cuts at City Hall. It is time for LA to restore City services and to stop Wall Street from gouging our community. See the LA Times story about the issue here: http://articles.latimes.com/2014/mar/24/local/la-me-unions-bank-costs-20140325

  • Tell Christian school: Apologize to this little girl, and stop discriminating
A Christian school just rejected an 8-year-old girl for "practicing a homosexual lifestyle or an alternative gender identity." Until recently, Sunnie Kahle attended Timberlake Christian School in Forest, VA. She got good grades and was never in trouble. But she also preferred wearing her hair short and prefers jeans and sneakers -- which school administrators claim disturbed the classroom. "Unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity," they wrote to Sunnie's grandparents, who raised her, "TCS is not the best place for her future education." Sunnie's grandparents removed her from Timberlake Christian and enrolled her in public school. They understandably don't want to reenroll her, but they say that she cries every day because she misses her old friends -- and who knows how many other children are suffering under the school's cruel and sexist policies? Timberlake Christian School owes this young girl and her family an apology -- and they need to drop their unchristian and discriminatory policies immediately.

  • Illinois: Stop the $108 Million Corporate Tax Heist
Illinois faces enough fiscal challenges without profitable companies abusing the tax code to the tune or $108 million. That money could hire 3,000 new teachers instead of padding bottom lines. That's why we need legislators in Springfield to be fiscally responsible by ending the yearly $108 million heist from Illinois' budget. Instead of considering more cuts that hurt kids, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities, let's ask big companies to pay their fair share. We, the small business owners and working families of Illinois, already do our fair share. • Tell the Fed: America needs more jobs
If you listen to the Wall Street bankers, our economy is blazing away. Of course they’d think so: corporations are making record profits and bankers are swimming in record bonuses. But we know that the economy is not working for the rest of us -- who of us has not been affected by job losses, foreclosed homes, or credit card and student debt? So, the question is: how can we spread the wealth? It turns out there is one institution that has the power to help stop our economy from providing such radically different results to the wealth hoarders on the one hand and the rest of us on the other. That institution is the Federal Reserve. No single institution has more influence over our economy than the Fed. It sets interest rates and determines the amount of money in circulation. Making decisions on those two critical issues has a profound impact on who wins and who loses in our economy. Here’s what’s going on: Wall Street creditors and their allies at the Fed are saying that dropping unemployment numbers mean it’s time to start raising interest rates in order to “prevent inflation.” But those numbers are dropping because people are no longer looking for work, not because the economy is improving. The real reason is so they can make more money off of our debt: mortgages, credit cards, student loans and all the rest. Wall Street is rolling in money from our misfortunes. For the rest of us, not only does our debt cost more, but higher interest rates stop businesses from hiring and investing and keep growing families from buying new homes. Right now, Wall Street bankers are fighting as hard as they can to win. And when they win, the rest of us lose. Help us stop Wall Street bankers and other wealth hoarders from forcing us back into recession. If we stand up and fight back, then we will take a step towards an economy that works for all of us. Make your voice heard. Sign the petition.

  • ZYNGA: It's time to remove the announcement
The announcement page when logging into YoVille prevents players from being able to collect game prizes. It would take very little effort for Zynga to remove it, and would keep the loyal fan base from leaving out of frustration. Until the future of YoVille is settled, we would like to continue to play as normally as possible.
