Switch California to Single-Payer Health CareAs the Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA aka "ObamaCare") operates currently, all of the insurance companies have been kept in place, & as taxpayers we are paying these insurance companies because the Federal Government was in a tight position, & didn't have the power to "throw the insurance companies under the bus". Fortunately, the Fed still looked out for us, & included a provision that allows states to CHOOSE to go single-payer (to bypass the insurance companies & put tax $$$ directly into paying for health care rather than paying insurance middlemen). Vermont has already switched over- which will save us ALL millions of dollars. NOW, it is time that we return he favour, because *technically* Vermont is still paying for every other state who has NOT switched. Switching California to a single-payer system will save millions of much-needed dollars dunng these hard economic times, & will set a leading example for other states to do the same so that our nation can re-allocate this money to other needed places. Here are some articles regarding this issue: "Single-Payer, a Better Solution" by New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2013/05/29/is-obamacare-too-complicated-to-succeed/a-single-payer-system-would-be-better-than-obamacare "Vermont Approves Single-Payer Health Care: ‘Everybody in, nobody out’" by Occupy Democrats http://www.occupydemocrats.com/vermont-makes-promise-people-video/ "Obamacare A Mess? Liberals Say Go Single Payer." by Forbes Magazine http://www.forbes.com/sites/paulroderickgregory/2013/10/28/obama-care-a-mess-liberals-say-go-single-payer/ "Vermont Health Care for All; Everybody In, Nobody Out." http://www.vermontforsinglepayer.org15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alexandra "Distance Everheart" Wilson

Take Action to Prevent Human Atrocities in UkraineUkrainian people and the democratic world community is asking President Obama and the U.S. Congress to take immediate action to prevent future atrocities in Ukraine. The dictatorship regime supported by Kremlin has orchestrated bloody violence on the street of Kyiv and used military force against peaceful demonstrators. As a result, dozens of unarmed civilians died, thousands are wounded and in critical condition. Ukrainian nation is very peaceful and in the course of Orange Revolution of 2004, millions of Ukrainians expressed their nation's will without a singe act of violence. For the last three months, Ukrainian protesters courageously endured sub-zero temperatures around the clock in the hope that the voices of the people of Ukraine would be heard, and a peaceful compromise can be found. However, Yanukovich and his MPs were not interested in the peaceful resolution and initiated killings of their own people. They used snipers, grenades, water canons in sub-zero temperatures and AK-74 against peaceful demonstrators which violates UN convention on human rights. An immediate action is needed on the part of the US government to influence the government of Ukraine to stop the bloodshed, to withdraw any military force and meet protesters' demands by legislative, political and economic reforms. We believe you can help! Thank you.50 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Oksana Cobb

Stop or Change Stand Your GroundToo many of our youth are dying behind the ridiculous law that contradicts the main reason to protect yourself, this law gives people the right to put the law in their own hands and chase innocent people down and kill them for no reason. The law states stand your ground not hunt your prey.377 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Samuel Parks

Common sense on gunsIt's time that legislators listen to the will of the people who elected them. Passing a background check bill is something that people have demanded, yet with no action from our senators and assemblymen. We must do something to prevent and reduce gun deaths in our State!377 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Christopher Babbitt

Level Playing FieldMy faith based school/childcare is accredited by Green Apple Association of Christian Schools, (GAACS). PCB EDC 14-01 is coming up for a committee vote on Thursday, February 20, 2014 or soon thereafter. As your constituent, it is important that you file or support an amendment to the proposed committee bill to create a level playing field for GAACS Accredited Schools/ChildCare Providers. GAACS is an accrediting agency that has consistently believed in meeting and exceeding the state licensing standards and conducting inspections. My faith based school/childcare has been inspected routinely by GAACS validators/inspectors and we wish to continue this process. An amendment to lines 259-279 accepting GAACS inspections to meet substantial compliance requirements in lieu of the department or local licensing agencies would level the playing field, avoid overarching, government involvement in faith based schools/childcare programs, relieve unnecessary burden on the department, and save tax dollars for the state. An amendment to lines 711-722 including GAACS in the list of accrediting agencies would level the playing field for GAACS accredited schools/childcare providers to participate in the Voluntary Prekindergarten Program without having to apply for gold seal accreditation which is a higher threshold to meet.110 of 200 SignaturesCreated by GAACS

Time for a Repeat of the John Sinclair Freedom RallyFamilies everywhere are being torn apart for using cannabis, God and Nature's gift to all. The Wilson family's story (http://www.ladybud.com/2013/12/17/the-war-isnt-over-the-wilson-family/) is iconic: an illegal search and seizure, no money to fight the case, a possible 15 years in prison, and a two-year-old who may grow up without either parent. And all based on the crime of using God's gift. The 1971 Rally for John Sinclair's Freedom was a long time ago; we need another one now. God and Nature's creations don't need to be legalized, they need to be decriminalized. No one should go to jail for growing a plant.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Letitia Pepper

California Decision Makers: Take Action on Climate ChangeCalifornia is facing a future of heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and sea level rise; all the while, big oil is planning a massive increase in fracking on the Monterey Shale formation and is also investing in rail terminals to ship in tar sands bitumen for refining. Not to mention, Southern California is the home to the worst air quality in the country which lends to negative human health effects including cancer, asthma, premature death and cardio-respiratory diseases. On March 1st, SoCal 350, over 100 regional partners, and almost 1,000 people helped launch the Great March for Climate Action in the Port of L.A. Hundreds continued the march eastward, eventually covering 3,000 miles to Washington D.C. to deliver the message that we need immediate legislative and executive action to solve the climate crisis. See http://www.wilderutopia.com/?p=8110 To demonstrate the political will for a healthy planet, we prioritize these urgent climate-change-focused requests of local, state and global level elected decision makers: - We demand that you, our representative, set a goal of a carbon-free economy based on clean, renewable energy, without fossil fuels in utility-provided energy and transportation, and set a date and timeline to accomplish it with minimum social disruption. - We demand that you, our representative, establish a more ambitious program for energy efficiency and conservation, reducing overall energy consumption by 20% by 2020, at the same time expanding our renewable energy portfolio to 40% by 2020. In addition, the LA Department of Water and Power should be required to achieve 1,200 MW of local solar power by 2020. - We demand that you, our representative, ensure the next scoping plan for California’s AB-32 [Global Warming Solutions Act] is strong, with attention toward environmental justice concerns, and that it fulfills the intentions of the legislation. - We demand that you, our representative, institute rising fees on all use of dirty fuels to offset the significant costs incurred to our health, our climate, and our ecosystems. - We demand that you, our representative, impose an immediate moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing, acidization, and gravel packing in oil and gas development, and the cessation of tar sands transportation and refining to protect public health, water supplies, air quality, agriculture, and private properties in California. - We demand that you, our representative, reject multinational trade agreements that weaken environmental and public interest protections. We must support trade that prioritizes equal protection for the poor, people of color, and indigenous communities.556 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Jessica Aldridge

Oregonians have the right to know about potentially harmful chemicals in children's productsArsenic. Cadmium. Mercury. Bisphenol A. Formaldehyde. These are just some of the potentially toxic chemicals in products intended for use by children. Chemical and toy companies don’t want you to know about it. Sign the petition to support SB 1569, requiring manufacturers to disclose products that contain these chemicals. Right now in Oregon, manufacturers aren’t required to tell us about potentially toxic chemicals that are in products intended for children. There’s a heated battle in the legislature and chemical company lobbyists are working hard to convince legislators that it’s simply too big a burden to tell us what’s in these products. Sign the petition NOW to demand that the legislature pass SB 1569 to help protect our kids from harmful chemicals. Oregonians deserve to have ALL of the information when it comes to chemicals in products, especially those used by children. Claims by chemical and toy manufacturers that it’s just too big a burden are ridiculous. Washington State already has a very similar law. Our kids deserve the same protections. Tell the Oregon Legislature to pass SB 1569.Sign the petition and let’s not allow big, out-of-state lobbyists to win the day.869 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by BlueOregon Action
