• Revoke the Stand Your Ground Law
Do not support Florida's tourism industry until The Stand your Ground Law is abolished! This law has become akin to Jim Crow Laws which enabled and tacitly encouraged violent acts against innocent African Americans--most of whom were male-- under the guise of keeping our country separate but equal. Given the recent mistrial of Michael Dunn who fatally shot a young unarmed African American male teenager over a dispute about loud music, we have to let Florida's government know that the Stand your Ground Law has effected the hard won freedom of two innocent children because their skin color made them suspect.

  • Victoria Nuland should resign for improper conduct
Victoria Nuland in a bugged phone conversation with Geoffrey Pyat (US ambassador to Ukraine) has clearly shown intrusion into Ukraine's internal affairs by a USA diplomat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv7qy7jot30). Her conduct is contributing to destabilization within the country and escalation of violence which is claiming lives. Foreign interference heavily contributed to civil war in former Yugoslavia 20 years ago, which resulted in 140,000 deaths. Let's not repeat this mistake again, let Ukraine fix internal issues on their own.

  • Help us end the dangerous "Shoot First" laws that let Jordan and Trayvon's killers get away with ...
A white man killed an unarmed Black teenager — Jordan Davis — and Florida's so-called "Stand Your Ground" or "Shoot First" law set the stage for the injustice we've just witnessed — enabling Michael Dunn to kill Jordan Davis and not fully answer for that crime. It's a gripping comparison and a terrifying continuation of the injustice we saw with Trayvon Martin — with both murders taking place in Florida just months apart. In this time of national sorrow, let us turn our rightful frustration into action and grow a movement to hold accountable the criminal justice system that fails Black Americans every day.

  • No Cell Tower on Bradyville Pike
We oppose the cell tower proposal because 1.) it does not conform to the aesthetic of the community, 2.) it will greatly diminish the value of our property, 3.) we do not believe the applicant did their best to find an alternative site, 4.) the proposed location is within an archeological site of historic significance: a Civil War campsite and the land of Chief Black Fox to whom our schools and community pay tribute by bearing his name, 5.) the tower will interfere with federally protected migratory birds flying off Todds Lake and Hoover Lake South-South East, 6.) the tower is too close to the Amy Heidish Bird Sanctuary, and the Nature Preservation Area on the West border of Fox Creek Subdivision. We ask the government to witness our hands in opposition to the telecommunication company's cell tower proposal.

  • Stop Bee Colony Collapse
It's obvious each spring and summer that there are fewer and fewer bees. Neonicotinoids are proven to cause colony collapse. I like variety in my diet and rely heavily on bees to pollinate my favorite foods and flowers in my organic gardens.

  • Teminate HC&S Cane Burning Permit
According to the DOH-CAB rules, Ash (that is made up of partially burnt plant material), and has very high amounts of "Polycyclic Organic Matter" and is number 186 on their list of hazardous materials. http//health.hawaii.gov/cab-files-2013-05_x-11-60-1.pdf (Page 60.1-237) Under the DOH-CAB hazard rules DOH-CAB can refuse to issue the permit. Please do not approve the HC&S cane burning permit in its present form. • A N.C. Republican Fighting Big Money?
Members of Congress hardly ever get a giant Thank You when they go out on a limb and do something right. We especially need to thank a Southern Republican for stepping up to fight the Koch Brothers and the power of big money in politics. Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr. of eastern North Carolina is the only Republican member of Congress willing to stand up to wealthy special interests and sign on to a serious campaign reform bill. It's the "Government By the People Act," co-sponsored by more than 100 House Democrats - and Walter Jones. Please sign the petition to thank Rep. Jones for his courageous leadership. The "Government By the People Act" sets up a public financing option for qualifying Congressional candidates who rely on small donors. It makes elected officials accountable to the people, not big donors. Here’s how it would work: - To encourage low-dollar giving, people could receive a $25 My Voice tax credit for their small campaign donation. - Qualifying candidates can super-size these small donations through the Freedom from Influence Fund. Donations they receive of $1 to $150 would be matched on a six-to-one basis, so $100 brings in an extra $600. - Candidates who raise more small donations during the last 60 days of the election can receive additional funds to combat hostile ads by outside attack groups. We need to encourage more leaders to support alternatives to the current system of elections. Please thank Walter Jones for his leadership. Thanks, Bob Hall, Democracy North Carolina
