  • Justice for Jordan Davis
We can no longer let the senseless murder of our young people go unpunished. Michael Dunn was not convicted for killing Jordan Davis after confronting him over loud music at a convenience store. Dunn fired his weapon 10 times; 3 shots were lodged into Davis' body. Dunn is claiming "self-defense." Following the murder, Dunn fled the scene with his girlfriend, stayed at a hotel and ordered pizza. They did not call 911. Police had to apprehend Dunn at his home 130 miles away. Jordan Davis had no criminal record. He was unarmed at the time of his murder. Dunn was convicted of 3 counts of attempted murder, and 1 count of firing into a vehicle. He was not convicted of first degree murder. In 2014, this is unacceptable. Please sign this petition and stand in solidarity with Jordan Davis and his family.

  • Governor Kitzhaber: Place Organic Farmer Frank Morton on your GMO task force!
The organic food industry is expected to grow by 12% between 2010-2014, according to the US Organic Food Market Analysis. And the part that Oregon plays, including its unique organic vegetable seed industry, is vital to the industry. That's why organic farmers are alarmed about genetic drift from GMO seed crops such as sugar beets, and the inevitable increase in herbicides, blights, diseases and degradation of the soil that GMO farming brings. In the “Grand Bargain” last October, Oregon's Governor Kitzhaber forced lawmakers to rescind an earlier vote, which rejected the Oregon Monsanto Protection Act. As a consolation, he promised he'd select a task force to study the problem of GMO's vs. the organic food/seed industry. We want at least one member of this task force to be an organic farmer. Frank Morton is the people's choice. Frank Morton, organic farmer (Shoulder to Shoulder Farm), organic seed producer (wildgardenseed.com), and board member of the Organic Seed Alliance (seedalliance.org), has authored dozens of articles on the subjects of seed propagation, GMO's, seed patents, canola and other subjects pertaining to Oregon's diverse agricultural landscape. Oregon Department of Agriculture director Katy Coba has stated that the state doesn't have the expertise to address GMO's. You need an expert on your panel who recognizes the organic food industry. Please include Frank Morton on your panel.

My petition is about protecting human rights, and forcing my country to take responsibility for it actions. When NATO was bombarding Libya to help further the agenda of their Libyan allies (rebels), these rebels were busy killing black people (Black Libyan, African migrant workers)

  • Fight Voter Discrimination with Education
Judge Clay Jenkins has introduced a measure to provide funding for a mailer to county residents for the purpose of informing people how to comply with the new discriminatory voter ID laws. While we don’t agree with the Voter ID requirement law, the least our elected officials can do is make a concerted effort to help as many people vote despite these new restrictions on voting.

  • AOL CEO Tim Armstrong: Pregnancy is responsible for benefit cuts?!
Tim Armstrong, CEO of AOL, just had a staff-wide conference call to announce drastic cuts to benefits. He then viciously blamed the cuts on two female employees who had recently had difficult pregnancies covered by the company's health plan. The cut was made a day after AOL announced 2013 had been "its most successful year in the last decade" with revenues of $2.3 billion. Armstrong himself made $30 million from a patent deal with Microsoft (how's that for a bonus?) and last year his annual salary was quadrupled to $12.1 million. Yet, two pregnant women are blamed for a cut in benefits. It is wildly inappropriate for a multi-millionaire CEO who heads a corporation gaining record profits to make a greedy move cutting benefits and then blame pregnancy. If we let Armstrong have his way, then other CEOs can slash benefits with the same sexist justification. We need to send a message to corporate America that women will fight back and speak up for their rights at work. Will you sign the petition demanding CEO Tim Armstrong apologize for blaming pregnant women for AOL's greedy move and then restore benefits to employees?

  • Rescind the Reduced Substitute Teacher rate of Franklin Twp , NJ
We work as substitute teachers for the Franklin school district. Our salary of $110 per diem during the school year has been reduced to 85 dollars. This decision was finalized in the budget without the input of substitutes, the public, teachers ,parents and most administration. Our children's education should be our top priority; these cuts will result in a loss of valuable, educated personnel and the ability of school offices to fill teacher absences. We are a loyal hard working group who live in your town, have 60 credits or more, years of business experience, often parents with past and present PTO memberships. Some of us are even certified teachers who are out of work. We live in this community, teach your children, and deserve a sustainable wage that ensures parents that we will be there day in and day out, familiar and safe faces. The Board of Education believes "the quality of the professional staff in large part determines the quality of education offered district students." Often we are called upon to fill long-term assignments where we are covering one teacher from anywhere from 2 days to 21 days. In that time we are responsible for lesson plans, quizzes, tests, homework and grading. If we are paid so poorly, our children may not get the education promised. We are here year after year and know the curriculum and the students. We learn up to date teaching skills by modeling the professional staff. Retention of skilled substitute staff saves money and increases student education. We hear the cries of “ there is no money " yet there is still plenty of money to give to the top salaries, professional development, stipends, new schools etc.. America has fallen into a dangerous habit of chipping away at the bottom to give to the top. We teach our students the reason we learn history is so we do not repeat the mistakes of our past yet our own Board of Education approved a decrease in income to the lowest paid personnel submitted by the school management who are the highest paid personnel!! Our six figure paid management has decided to chip away at a segment of their own population who cannot afford the sacrifice. Sounds familiar? The Rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Eliminate the rise to middle class. This is a practice of employers of the past before unions organized the work force. Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor under Clinton, has said all low wage earners have a right to unionize without fear of losing their jobs. So if the intent of the Board of Education and school management of Franklin is to repeat the past by refusing to rescind our reduction in wage therefore maintaining it at an unlivable level, or perhaps blacklisting all substitutes who have signed this petition, we are ready with our attorneys and will be left with no option but to organize just as teachers did so many decades ago. The "culture of respect" should be for all of us. Please offer your support by signing this petition.
